Sensing, Presenting, and Regulating PAMPS
2008Recognition of microbial infection and initiation of immune responses are controlled by multiple mechanisms. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are key components of the innate immune system that detect microbial infection. TLR activation helps to eliminate the invading pathogens, coordinate systemic defenses, and initiate adaptive immune responses.

Is the Cytoskeleton an Intracellular Receptor for Adrenomedullin and PAMP?
Current Protein & Peptide Science, 2013Classical transmembrane receptors have been described for both adrenomedullin (AM) and proadrenomedullin N-terminal 20 peptide (PAMP). Through interactions with these membrane receptors, AM and PAMP exert a variety of endocrine, paracrine, and autocrine functions.

Immunological Mechanism and Clinical Application of PAMP Adjuvants
Recent Patents on Anti-Cancer Drug Discovery, 2021Background:The host innate immune system can recognize Pathogen-Associated Molecular Patterns (PAMPs) through Pattern Recognition Receptors (PRRs), thereby initiating innate immune responses and subsequent adaptive immune responses. PAMPs can be developed as a vaccine adjuvant for modulating and optimizing antigen-specific immune responses, especially ...

DAMPs, PAMPs, and LAMPs in Immunity and Sterile Inflammation
Annual Review of Pathology: Mechanisms of Disease, 2020Recognizing the importance of leukocyte trafficking in inflammation led to some therapeutic breakthroughs. However, many inflammatory pathologies remain without specific therapy. This review discusses leukocytes in the context of sterile inflammation, a process caused by sterile (non-microbial) molecules, comprising damage-associated molecular ...

"Adrenomedullin (AM)" is a novel hypotensive peptide which was discovered in human pheochromocytoma by monitoring the elevating activity of platelet cAMP. In addition, a novel 20 residues hypotensive peptide, termed "proadrenomedullin N-terminal 20 peptide" (PAMP) is processed from proadrenomedullin. By RNA blot analysis, AM mRNA was found to be highly

Regulatory Peptides, 2003
It has previously been shown, by this laboratory and others, that adrenal cells actively secrete adrenomedullin. Here it is demonstrated that human adrenal cells also secrete the related peptide, proadrenomedullin N-terminal 20 peptide (PAMP). The actions of adrenomedullin and PAMP on adrenal steroid secretion were determined by measuring the ...

Adrenomedullin and PAMP: Discovery, structures, and cardiovascular functions
Microscopy Research and Technique, 2002AbstractWe discovered adrenomedullin (AM) from human pheochromocytoma tissue by monitoring the elevating activity of intracellular cyclic AMP (cAMP) in rat platelets in 1993. Since the discovery of AM, it has attracted intense interest from cardiovascular researchers because AM elicits multiple biological activities, including a potent and powerful ...

Effects of adrenomedullin and PAMP on membrane potential and neurotransmission☆
Peptides, 2000The effects of adrenomedullin (AM) and proadrenomedullin N-terminal 20 peptide (PAMP) on membrane potential and sympathetic neurotransmission were studied in rat mesenteric arteries by using microelectrodes. AM (10(-7) M) but not PAMP (10(-6) M) produced membrane hyperpolarization, which was abolished by high K solution or by glibenclamide, an ATP ...

PAMPs of the Fungal Cell Wall and Mammalian PRRs
2020Fungi are opportunistic pathogens that infect immunocompromised patients and are responsible for an estimated 1.5 million deaths every year. The antifungal innate immune response is mediated through the recognition of pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) by the host's pattern recognition receptors (PRRs). PRRs are immune receptors that ensure
