BackgroundCirculating free fatty acids are often elevated in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and obese individuals. Chronic exposure to high levels of saturated fatty acids has detrimental effects on islet function and insulin secretion. Altered gene

In pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), insulin is associated with activation of PI3K/AKT–RAB3A signaling and enhanced secretion of TNFAIP8‐enriched exosomes from tumor cells. Uptake of these exosomes by fibroblasts is linked to TRIM21‐dependent STAT1 degradation and the emergence of myofibroblastic CAF–associated features, accompanied by increased

Human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) was used to mimic T2DM, and Aβ42‐hIAPP co‐oligomers were delivered into the human mature cerebral organoids (COs), which reproduce typical AD pathology and significant neuronal death more closely resembling that of AD patients.

Prediction of Pancreatic Islet Yield After Pancreatectomy Using Optical Coherence Elastography
Intraoperative assessment of pancreatic quality, followed by sampling for the potential isolation of Langerhans islets for subsequent autotransplantation, is currently a key component of post-total pancreatectomy diabetes mellitus treatment.

Autoimmune type 1 diabetes (T1D) development results from the interaction between pancreatic β‐cells, and the innate and the adaptive immune systems culminating with the destruction of the insulin‐secreting β‐cells by autoreactive T cells.

Summary: The pancreatic islet is a highly structured micro-organ that produces insulin in response to rising blood glucose. Here we develop a label-free and automatic imaging approach to visualize the islets in situ in diabetic rodents by the synchrotron

Diabetes is an independent risk factor for gallstones. It upregulates CXCR2 expression in hepatic neutrophils, stimulating the formation of NETs that disrupt hepatocellular tight junctions and the liver‐bile barrier. NETs enter bile to accelerate gallstone development, while sarcosine inhibits CXCR2 and NETs production, effectively reducing diabetes ...

Functional implications of long non-coding RNAs in the pancreatic islets of Langerhans
Type-2 diabetes (T2D) is a complex disease characterized by insulin resistance in target tissues and impaired insulin release from pancreatic beta cells. As central tissue of glucose homeostasis, the pancreatic islet continues to be an important focus of

We studied how five common immunosuppressants behave when delivered directly to a transplant site instead of systemically. Using a vascularized implant for islet transplantation, we show that local delivery protects grafts, limits drug spread to the rest of the body, and produces distinct immune signatures.

Alpha cells of pancreatic islets constitute the second largest population of pancreatic endocrinocytes, and the glucagon synthesized in them plays an important role in the regulation of glucose homeostasis.
