Multifunctional Neural Probes Enable Bidirectional Electrical, Optical, and Chemical Recording and Stimulation In Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Convergence drawing is used to create flexible, microscale, multifunctional fiber‐based neural probes. Optimized materials selection enables individual devices to perform neural recording, electrical stimulation, optogenetics, fiber photometry, fluid delivery, and voltammetric neurotransmitter detection in rodents.

Adsorption and Separation by Flexible MOFs

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Flexible metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) present significant potential for gas storage and separation due to their structural dynamic. This review explores the rationale behind the flexible MOFs' enhanced working capacity and separation factors. It also addresses key challenges, including phase transition kinetics, crystal robustness, cycling, shaping,

The activation thresholds and inactivation kinetics of poking-evoked PIEZO1 and PIEZO2 currents are sensitive to subtle variations in mechanical stimulation parameters

open access: yesChannels
PIEZO1 and PIEZO2 are mechanically activated ion channels that confer mechanosensitivity to various cell types. PIEZO channels are commonly examined using the so-called poking technique, where currents are recorded in the whole-cell configuration of the ...

Surface finishing [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
A surface of an article adapted for relative motion with a fluid environment is finished by coating the surface with a fluid adhesive, covering the adhesive with a sheet of flexible film material under tension on the film material whereby the tensioned ...

Anomalous Phonon Softening with Inherent Strain in Wrinkled Monolayer WSe2

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces the first discovery of a new local strain indicator, A2′′(Γ)$A_2^{^{\prime\prime}}( \Gamma )$ mode, for monolayer WSe2‐based excitonic applications including single photon emitter by using tip‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy. The correlative investigation with density functional perturbation theory provides the origin of the anomalous

Position of Premature Termination Codons Determines Susceptibility of hERG Mutations to Nonsense-Mediated mRNA Decay in Long QT Syndrome

open access: yes, 2014
The degradation of human ether-a-go-go-related gene (hERG, KCNH2) transcripts containing premature termination codon (PTC)mutations by nonsense-mediatedmRNA decay (NMD) is an importantmechanismof long QT syndrome type 2 (LQT2).

Mussel‐Inspired Molecular Strategies for Fabricating Functional Materials With Underwater Adhesion and Self‐Healing Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review systematically examines the nanomechanical mechanisms of mussel‐inspired molecular interactions, primarily investigated by direct force measurement techniques such as surface forces apparatus and atomic force microscopy. The macroscopic adhesive and self‐healing performances of mussel‐inspired functional materials, including coacervates ...

Detecting and Estimating Signals in Noisy Cable Structures, I: Neuronal Noise Sources [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
In recent theoretical approaches addressing the problem of neural coding, tools from statistical estimation and information theory have been applied to quantify the ability of neurons to transmit information through their spike outputs. These techniques,
