Beta‐Lactam Antibiotics Promote Extracellular Vesicle Production of Staphylococcus aureus Through ROS‐Mediated Lipid Metabolic Reprogramming

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2025.
ABSTRACT Bacterial extracellular vesicles (EVs) are natural reservoirs of biological active substances. They exhibit promising application in developing bioproducts such as vaccine, drug‐delivery system and anticancer agent. However, the low yield of naturally secreted EVs during bacterial growth is a bottleneck factor that restricts EV applications ...

Design, Synthesis, and Antibacterial Evaluation of Pyrazole Pyrimidine Hybrids: Integrative In Vitro and In Silico Studies

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 10, Issue 17, May 5, 2025.
This study synthesizes novel pyrimidine–pyrazole hybrids and evaluates their antimicrobial activity against bacterial pathogens by targeting penicillin‐binding protein 3 (PBP3). Several compounds show significant activity against E. faecium. Docking studies reveal strong binding with HMG‐CoA synthase, while in silico pharmacokinetic predictions ...

Identification of a New Family of Enzymes with Potential \u3cem\u3eO\u3c/em\u3e-acetylpeptidoglycan esterase activity in both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Background: The metabolism of the rigid bacterial cell wall heteropolymer peptidoglycan is a dynamic process requiring continuous biosynthesis and maintenance involving the coordination of both lytic and synthetic enzymes.

Penicillin-binding Proteins (PBP) and Lmo0441 (a PBP-like protein) play a role in Beta-lactam sensitivity of Listeria monocytogenes

open access: yesGut Pathogens, 2009
While seven penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) or PBP-like proteins have been identified either by radiolabelled penicillin binding studies or genomic analysis, only PBP3 has been considered of interest for Beta-lactams activity against Listeria ...

Non‐Membrane Active Peptide Resensitizes MRSA to β‐Lactam Antibiotics and Inhibits S. aureus Virulence

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 15, April 17, 2025.
This work identifies a potent, non‐membrane active, and non‐toxic AMP termed GN1, which substantially resensitizes MRSA to multiple β‐lactam antibiotics at low concentrations. GN1 functions by suppressing MRSA‐associated resistance determinants, including penicillin‐binding protein 2a (PBP2a) and β‐lactamase.

Publisher Correction: Z-ring membrane anchors associate with cell wall synthases to initiate bacterial cell division

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
The original version of this Article contained errors in Figures 1 and 3. In Fig. 1b, the label ‘IP-PBP3’ above the second of the three blots incorrectly read ‘IP-PBP1B’. In Fig.

Occurrence and spread of carbapenemase‐producing Enterobacterales (CPE) in the food chain in the EU/EFTA. Part 1: 2025 update

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 4, April 2025.
Abstract Carbapenemase‐producing Enterobacterales (CPE) have been reported in the food chain in 14 out of 30 EU/EFTA countries. Commonly reported genes are blaVIM‐1, blaOXA‐48 and blaOXA‐181, followed by blaNDM‐5 and blaIMI‐1. Escherichia coli, target of most of the studies, Enterobacter cloacae complex, Klebsiella pneumoniae complex and Salmonella ...
