Advances in the Protective Effects and Mechanisms of β‐Aminoisobutyric Acid in Maintaining Multi‐Organ Homeostasis

open access: yesMedicine Bulletin, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT β‐Aminoisobutyric acid (BAIBA) is an exercise‐responsive myokine/metabolite released by skeletal muscle and has attracted increasing interest as a potential exercise mimetic and therapeutic candidate in preclinical research. BAIBA acts locally in skeletal muscle and can also reach distal organs through the circulation, contributing to the ...

Evaluation of Intracerebral Grafting of Dopamine-Secreting PC12 Cells into Allogeneic and Xenogeneic Brain

open access: yesCell Transplantation, 1997
The PC12 pheochromocytoma tumor cell line is derived from a rat adrenal medullary tumor and secretes dopamine. We have previously reported that grafted microencapsulated PC12 cells using agarose and poly(styrene sulfonic acid) survived in the xenogeneic ...

Repurposing antimicrobial agents for neuroprotection: Mechanisms, clinical potential, and challenges

open access: yesNeuroprotection, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial agents exert neuroprotective effects through modulation of interconnected pathways. Tetracyclines, macrolides, antimalarial agents, sulfones, and antiparasitic agents suppress neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis while preserving mitochondrial function and neurotransmission.

Changes of nuclear protein kinase C activity and isotype composition in PC12 cell proliferation and differentiation

open access: yes, 1996
To establish whether protein kinase C was involved in the nuclear events underlying cell differentiation and proliferation, rat pheochromocytoma PC12 cells, serum-starved for 24 h, were treated with either differentiating doses of nerve growth factor or ...

NADPH oxidase in PC12 cell differentiation and apoptosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Neuronal differentiation is an important process during human development and regenerative medicine. One factor linked to differentiation of neurons in vivo as well as in vitro is the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Mechanistische Auswirkungen der schwedischen APP-Mutation und des Caspase-3-gespalteten c-terminalen Presenilin-Fragments auf die neurotoxischen Effektive von Beta Amyloid [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disorder world wide, causing presenile dementia and death of millions of people. During AD damage and massive loss of brain cells occur.

Research Trends and Mechanistic Insights Into Natural Medicines for Alzheimer's Disease: A Bibliometric Analysis and Narrative Review

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, EarlyView.
Research landscape and mechanistic insights into natural medicines for Alzheimer's disease. ABSTRACT Natural medicines have been widely investigated for Alzheimer's disease (AD), but the development of this field and the relationship between bibliometric themes and experimental evidence remain insufficiently characterized.

Two PC 12 Pheochromocytoma Lines Sealed in Hollow Fiber-Based Capsules Tonically Release L-Dopa In Vitro

open access: yesCell Transplantation, 1993
Two PC12 cell-derived lines have been studied following encapsulation into polymer-based hollow fibers with respect to secreted catecholamines and their metabolites.

Carbon dots as a smart nanoplatform for the blood‐brain barrier penetration and ischemic stroke therapy

open access: yesResponsive Materials, EarlyView.
This review presents the structure and transport routes of the blood‐brain barrier, summarizes the ischemic stroke pathophysiological cascade, and discusses the BBB‐crossing mechanisms and multitarget therapeutic effects of carbon dots, demonstrating their promising theranostic potential for ischemic stroke.
