Observations on mycorrhization of pecan seedlings with a European truffle
Rhizosphere, 2021Abstract We evaluated the mycorrhization potential of Tuber borchii (Vitt.) on pecan seedlings. Two year old seedlings in a greenhouse pot study were inoculated and assayed six month later. Our results show that pecan will form mycorrhizae with the European truffle inoculum.

Composition of the pecan truffle (Tuber texense)
Food Chemistry, 1993Abstract The proximate composition of the ascomata of Tuber texense Heimsch, a truffle collected from the soil beneath pecan trees in Southwestern Georgia, USA, was determined. The moisture content was 72.5%. Dry material consisted of 16.1% protein (N × 4.38), 2.8% lipid, 75% carbohydrate (by difference) and 6.1% ash.

Pecan (Carya illinoinensis) is an economically important nut tree native to the Mississippi basin and cultivated worldwide. In North America, species of truffles are regularly found fruiting in productive pecan orchards and the truffle genus Tuber appears to be abundant in pecan ectomycorrhizal (EM) communities.
