Photocatalytic and Biotechnological Strategies for Remediation of Persistent Organic Pollutants: Mechanisms, Toxicity, and Antimicrobial Perspectives

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) pose significant ecological and human health risks due to their persistence, bioaccumulation, toxicity, and global distribution. Conventional remediation methods are often inadequate for achieving complete mineralization, demonstrating the need for advanced and substantial approaches.

Route‐Dependent Toxicity and Ecological Selectivity of Melaleuca alternifolia Essential Oil in Apis mellifera Linnaeus, 1758 (Hymenoptera: Apidae)

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The intensification of agricultural practices has led to an increase in the use of insecticides, raising concerns about the exposure of non‐target organisms, particularly pollinators. In this context, plant‐derived essential oils have been proposed as environmentally friendlier alternatives due to their low persistence; however, their ...

Biochemistry of Lipolytic Enzymes Secreted by Penicillium solitum and Cladosporium cladosporioides

open access: yes, 2014
Two distinct extracellular lipases were obtained from Penicillium solitum 194A and Cladosporium cladosporioides 194B, isolated from domestic compost and dairy wastewater, respectively. They were alkaline enzymes of 42 kDa and 30 kDa, respectively.

Plant‐derived nanovesicles as potential drug delivery systems for topical use: Emerging applications in dermatology and cosmetology

open access: yesVIEW, EarlyView.
Plant‐derived nanovesicles (PDNVs) are naturally secreted by fruit, vegetables, seeds, leaves and other natural sources. Used as drug delivery systems, they can combine intrinsic therapeutic activity, enhanced skin permeation and cargo‐carrying capacity, suitable for dermatological and cosmetic applications including hydration, antioxidant/anti ...

Molecular identification of Penicillium marneffei using rolling circle amplification

open access: yes, 2011
Penicillium marneffei is the aetiological agent of a severe systemic disease in immunocompromised hosts in Southeast Asia. In the present study, we evaluated an identification method based on rolling circle amplification (RCA) enabling rapid and specific

Distinct Nasal Microbiome Profiles and Prediction Model for Allergic Rhinitis, Nonallergic Rhinitis, and Healthy Children

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
The alpha and beta diversity of the nasal microbiome differed among children with allergic rhinitis (AR), nonallergic rhinitis (NAR), and healthy controls (HCs). Compared to HC, AR had more Escherichia‐Shigella, Negativicoccus, and Campylobacter, while NAR had more Dolosigranulum and fewer Enterobacteriaceae.

BIOCHEMISTRY OF THE USTILAGINALES: I. PRELIMINARY CULTURAL STUDIES OF USTILAGO ZEAE

open access: yes, 1950
A program of screening a wide range of fungi for ability to "ferment" glucose and various agricultural wastes and surpluses in submerged culture revealed that species of Ustilago were capable of rapid dissimilation of carbohydrates with the production ...
