Association of Cat Sensitization With Comorbid Asthma in Patients With Allergic Rhinitis: A Real‐World Study

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The prevalence of allergic rhinitis (AR) and asthma (AS) comorbidity (AR + AS) is increasing and is associated with severe allergic symptoms. The impact of cat dander sensitization on AR + AS remains unclear. Methods In this retrospective study, 1154 patients with AR alone and 213 patients with AR + AS were enrolled at the Third ...

Root‐associated fungi modulate plant recruitment in Mediterranean forests

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, EarlyView.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Established plants affect directly and indirectly the success of juvenile plants recruiting in their close vicinity, what is defined as a canopy–recruit interaction. Such interactions affect plant species demography and community dynamics.

Chemical characterization of fungal siderophores

open access: yes, 2000
56-62Siderophores of twenty fungi belonging to Zygomycotina (5 Mucorales), Ascomycotina (7 aspergilli, 6 penicillia, Neurospora crassa) and Deuteromycotina (Fusarium dimerum) were examined for their chemical nature.

Response of Fecal Bacteria and Fungi to Tannin‐Rich Diets in Sika Deer (Cervus nippon): Evidence from Both Feeding Experiments and Field Investigations

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Feeding with tannin‐rich diets altered the fecal microbial composition and increased the relative abundance of tannin‐degrading microbes. We hypothesize that fecal bacteria and fungi may play important roles in helping herbivores adapt to tannin‐rich diets but respond to different tannin concentrations varies.

MICROBIOLOGICAL DETERIORATION AND EFFECTS OF ENVIRONMENT ON STORABILITY OF SHELLED CORN STORED AT SIMULATED MIDWEST AND SOUTHEAST U.S. CONDITIONS (PENICILLIUM)

open access: yes, 1982
Shelled corn of high quality was stored at 14.0, 15.5, and 18.0% MC for 7.0 or 7.5 mos at Indianapolis temperatures (IT) starting Oct. 15. After 2.5, 3.5, 5.5, and 7.0 or 7.5 mos, aliquots were transferred to 84% RH or kept at their original moisture at ...

Climatic factors, landscape composition and host plant traits co‐drive fruit infestation of unmanaged walnut trees by the invasive pest fly Rhagoletis completa (Cresson, 1929) (Diptera: Tephritidae)

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
The study examined multiscale factors influencing walnut fruit infestations by the invasive pest fly Rhagoletis completa. Infestation rates increased with fruit size, host tree abundance, grasslands, hedgerows and temperatures, but decreased with anthropogenic habitats and heavy spring rainfall.

Regulation of siderophore production by iron Fe(III) in certain fungi and fluorescent pseudomonads

open access: yes, 2000
297-299Regulation of siderophore production in response to iron concentration in the medium was examined. Threshold concentration was recorded for twenty fungi and three rhizobacterial pseudomonads.

IgE‐Binding Bacterial Components Not Yet Documented in the Allergen Databases and Their Allergenic Mechanisms: An EAACI Position Paper

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Among bacteria that are associated with the development and/or exacerbation of allergic/atopic diseases, several have been described to produce IgE‐binding components. However, only one bacterial protein, Bac s 1, is currently listed in the official database of the World Health Organization/International Union of Immunological Societies (WHO ...

Ocular and cutaneous infection due to Curvularia pseudobrachyspora in an immunosuppressed dog: Case report and in vitro antimycotic susceptibilities

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
A 3‐year‐old male Border Collie diagnosed with immune‐mediated dermatopathy, managed with tapering prednisolone and cyclosporine, developed rapidly progressive ocular signs and additional cutaneous lesions. Histopathology, mycological culture, polymerase chain reaction and sequencing confirmed intraocular and cutaneous infection due to Curvularia ...
