Peptides: Pancreatic Hormones

1982
The pancreatic hormone glucagon, well known essentially for its metabolic effects, has also been used as a pharmacologic tool in different conditions: as a provocative test for pheochromocytoma, as a stimulus for growth hormone release, in the treatment of uncomplicated insulin-induced and sulfonylurea-induced hypoglycemia, and in some cases of acute ...

[Hormonally active peptides].

Ceskoslovenska fysiologie, 1998
The article reviews hormonally active peptides, mechanisms of their biosynthesis and chemical synthesis. Special attention is given to achievements of the Czech school of peptidology. Mechanisms of activity of peptidergic hormones is based mainly on the activation of adenylatcyclase and formation of the "second messenger", cAMP.

Peptides: Other Hormones

1982
The hypothalamus of most vertebrate species secretes two main peptides whose activities, though overlapping, fall into two different categories: pressor and uterine-contracting substances. In addition some gastrointestinal motor effects have been described and they will be reported here.

Hormonal Peptide Evolution

1985
Hormonal function is made possible for a naturally-circulating peptide by the existence in given cells (target cells) of receptors for this molecule. Receptors for peptides are generally located on the cell membrane; they are probably peptidic structures which specifically bind the hormone.

[Hypothalamic peptide hormones].

Acta medica Austriaca, 1979
