Presence of anti-Porphyromonas gingivalis-peptidylarginine deiminase antibodies in serum from juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus patients (Letter)

open access: yes, 2018
Periodontal disease is a group of chronic inflammatory diseases affecting tooth-supporting tissues. The early stage is the presence of biofilm-associated gingival inflammation which, in patients having juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), might ...

Peptidylarginine Deiminases: An Overview of Recent Advances in Citrullination Research

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences
The peptidylarginine deiminase (PAD) family includes five isozymes (PAD1–4 and PAD6) with unique tissue distributions and substrate specificities. These enzymes facilitate citrullination, a post-translational modification where positively charged arginine residues are converted into neutral citrulline residues in the presence of calcium ions.

Peptidylarginine deiminase 4 promotes age-related organ fibrosis

open access: yes, 2017
Aging promotes inflammation, a process contributing to fibrosis and decline in organ function. The release of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs [NETosis]), orchestrated by peptidylarginine deiminase 4 (PAD4), damages organs in acute inflammatory ...

Ppad Carried By Omvs Exacerbated Masld Through Npas2/Cyp4a10 Pathway

open access: yesInternational Dental Journal
Aim or purpose: This study investigated the causal link between periodontitis and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), with a specific focus on how P. gingivalis OMVs mediate hepatic lipid dysregulation through PPAD enzymatic

Transglutaminase and peptidylarginine deiminase in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Coeliac disease (CD) is becoming a model for understanding the pathogenesis of autoimmune disorders. In CD, antibodies against transglutaminase 2 (TG2) and specific glutamine residues of gliadins have been identified.

Contact with stimulated T cells up-regulates expression of peptidylarginine deiminase 2 and 4 by human monocytes

open access: yes, 2012
The antigenic targets of the rheumatoid arthritis (RA)-associated autoantibodies to "citrullinated" proteins are generated following citrullination by a peptidylarginine deiminase (PAD). Of the five PAD isotypes, two - PAD2 and PAD4 - are expressed in RA

GnRH Stimulates Peptidylarginine Deiminase Catalyzed Histone Citrullination in Gonadotrope Cells

open access: yes, 2017
Peptidylarginine deiminase (PAD) enzymes convert histone tail arginine residues to citrulline resulting in chromatin decondensation. Our previous work found that PAD isoforms are expressed in female reproductive tissues in an estrous cycle-dependent ...

cDNA cloning, gene organization and expression analysis of human peptidylarginine deiminase type VI. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Peptidylarginine deiminase (PAD) catalyzes the post-translational modification of protein through the conversion of arginine to citrulline in the presence of calcium ions.
