The effects of micronutrient-fortified complementary/replacement food on intestinal permeability and systemic markers of inflammation among maternally HIV-exposed and unexposed Zambian infants. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The present randomised trial investigated the effects of feeding Zambian infants from 6 to 18 months old either a richly or basal micronutrient-fortified complementary/replacement food on gut integrity and systemic inflammation.

Permeability-Controlled Probe for Directly Visualizing the Opening of Mitochondrial Permeability Transition Pore in Native Status

open access: yes, 2022
The opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pore (mPTP) plays a fundamental role in cell apoptosis regulation, ischemia–reperfusion injury, and neurodegenerative disorders.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Changes in gut microbiota control inflammation in obese mice through a mechanism involving GLP-2-driven improvement of gut permeability

open access: yesGut, 2009
Background and aims: Obese and diabetic mice display enhanced intestinal permeability and metabolic endotoxaemia that participate in the occurrence of metabolic disorders. Our recent data support the idea that a selective increase of Bifidobacterium spp.

The pyruvate generator is a common phenomenon in mitochondria from different rat and mouse brain regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The pyruvate generator, which causes activation of respiration by extra‐mitochondrial Ca2+, is also present and functional in rat brainstem mitochondria, as it is in other brain regions. This finding is confirmed by experiments with a fully reconstituted malate–aspartate shuttle (MAS).

Field test of volume fracturing for horizontal wells in Sulige tight sandstone gas reservoirs, NW China

open access: yesPetroleum Exploration and Development, 2014
Based on the development degree of natural micro-fractures, rock brittleness and two-direction stress and other geological conditions of the Sulige gas field, the feasibility of using volume fracturing to increase production was analyzed and verified by ...

An Experimental Investigation into Using Electro-Chemical Properties to Measure Permeability in Low Permeability Formations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Permeability is one of the most important property in the study of rock formations. Different permeability measurement techniques have been used in the industry, some of which are based on modelling while others on experiments.
