Synthesis and Antileishmanial Activity of 1,2,4,5-Tetraoxanes against Leishmania donovani [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
A chemically diverse range of novel tetraoxanes was synthesized and evaluated in vitro against intramacrophage amastigote forms of Leishmania donovani. All 15 tested tetraoxanes displayed activity, with IC50 values ranging from 2 to 45 µm.

The effect of sample storage on the Peroxidation of Leukocytes Index Ratio (PLIR) measure [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2014
AbstractDelays in processing are frequent because of problems associated with transporting the samples to the laboratory. Thus, we aimed to evaluate the effect of sample storage on the Peroxidation of Leukocytes Index Ratio (PLIR). Differences between PLIR values of lymphocytes (PLIR-L), monocytes (PLIR-M) and granulocytes (PLIR-G) were observed in ...

Optimization of the Strength Properties of Waste Oil Palm (Elaeis Guineensis) Fronds Fiber

open access: yesJournal of Natural Fibers, 2017
In this study, Box-Behnken design (BBD) and response surface methodology (RSM) was applied to study the effects of alkaline peroxide treatment variables (cooking time, sodium hydroxide concentrations, and hydrogen peroxide concentrations) on the pulp and

Physiological responses of a halophytic shrub to salt stress by Na2SO4 and NaCl: oxidative damage and the role of polyphenols in antioxidant protection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Salt stress conditions lead to increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in plant cells. Halophytes have the ability to reduce these toxic ROS by means of a powerful antioxidant system that includes enzymatic and non-enzymatic components.

Comprehensive lipid tetrad index, atherogenic index and lipid peroxidation: Surrogate markers for increased cardiovascular risk in psoriasis

open access: yesIndian Journal of Dermatology, Venereology, and Leprology, 2015
Recently, the concept of "psoriatic march" has come to the fore, in which chronic cutaneous inflammation in psoriasis leads to systemic inflammation which, in conjunction with increased oxidative stress, triggers a cascade of events resulting in increased cardiovascular risk in patients with severe psoriasis.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

H2O2 Oxidation of Corncob Holocellulose as a Dry-strength Additive for Paper

open access: yesBioResources, 2014
Corncob, an underutilized agricultural byproduct, was used as the raw material to make a dry-strength additive for paper. Corncob was ground into 80, 100, 150, and 200 mesh powder.

Comparison between a direct-flow SPR immunosensor for ampicillin and a competitive conventional amperometric device: analytical features and possible applications to real samples [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this research, we developed a direct-flow surface plasmon resonance (SPR) immunosensor for ampicillin to perform direct, simple, and fast measurements of this important antibiotic.

Carbon-sulfur bond strength in methanesulfinate and benzenesulfinate ligands directs decomposition of Np(v) and Pu(v) coordination complexes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Gas-phase coordination complexes of actinyl(v) cations, AnO2+, provide a basis to assess fundamental aspects of actinide chemistry. Electrospray ionization of solutions containing an actinyl cation and sulfonate anion CH3SO2- or C6H5SO2- generated ...
