Formation of Secondary and Tertiary Volatile Compounds Resulting from the Lipid Oxidation of Rapeseed Oil

open access: yesFoods, 2021
The lipid oxidation of fats and oils leads to volatile organic compounds, having a decisive influence on the sensory quality of foods. To understand formation and degradation pathways and to evaluate the suitability of lipid-derived aldehydes as marker ...

Micropollutant removal by advanced oxidation of microfiltered secondary effluent for water reuse [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The removal of micropollutants (MPs) from secondary municipal wastewater by an advanced oxidation process (AOP) based on UV irradiation combined with hydrogen peroxide (UV/H2O2) has been assessed through pilot-scale experiments incorporating ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Effect of tunisian pomegranate peel extract on the oxidative stability of corn oil under heating conditions

open access: yesGrasas y Aceites, 2022
The effect of pomegranate peel extract (PPE) on the oxidative stability of corn oil during heating was studied. Oxidation was followed by determining peroxide value (PV), p-anisidine value (p-AV), free fatty acid value (FFA), conjugated dienes (CD ...

Measuring Oxidative Stress: The Confounding Effect of Lipid Concentration in Measures of Lipid Peroxidation [PDF]

open access: yesPhysiological and Biochemical Zoology, 2015
Lipid peroxidation products are widely used as markers of oxidative damage in the organism. To properly interpret the information provided by these markers, it is necessary to know potential sources of bias and control confounding factors. Here, we investigated the relationship between two indicators of lipid mobilization (circulating levels of ...

Effect of high and low glycaemic index recovery diets on intramuscular lipid oxidation during aerobic exercise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Intramyocellular lipid (IMCL) and plasma NEFA are important skeletal muscle fuel sources. By raising blood insulin concentrations, carbohydrate ingestion inhibits lypolysis and reduces circulating NEFA.

Droplet size dependency and spatial heterogeneity of lipid oxidation in whey protein isolate-stabilized emulsions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Spatiotemporal assessment of lipid and protein oxidation is key for understanding quality deterioration in emulsified food products containing polyunsaturated fatty acids.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Induction of Peroxisomal β‐Oxidation as a Critical Mechanism for Ethanol‐Induced Hepatic Triglyceride Accumulation

open access: yesFASEB BioAdvances
Excessive oxidation of ethanol has been well known to induce hepatic triglyceride accumulation, while the underlying pathogenic mechanisms are not fully demonstrated.

Lipid Oxidation Inhibition in Frozen Farmed Salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutc h ): Effect of Packaging

open access: yesCzech Journal of Food Sciences, 2009
: Coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) has recently attracted a great interest as a farmed product. This research focuses on its commercialisation as a frozen product. For it, an advanced storage technology combining vacuum and a polyphenolic rich-film was
