Transfer of persulfide sulfur from thiocystine to rhodanese

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Enzymology, 1979
THiocystine (bis-[2-amino-2-carboxyethyl]trisulfide) is a natural substrate for rhodanese (thiosulfate:cyanide sulfurtransferase, EC 2.8.1.1). Analogs of thiocystine were prepared by eliminating the carboxyl or amino group or by lengthening the carbon chain.

Generation of reactive oxygen species by a persulfide (BnSSH)

Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2005
Hydropersulfides (RS(x)SH) have been implicated as important intermediates in the cell-killing action of the anticancer natural products leinamycin and varacin. It has been suggested that persulfides can mediate the conversion of molecular oxygen to reactive oxygen species (O2*-, H2O2, and HO*).

Structural Properties and Torsional Dynamics of Peroxides and Persulfides

2009
For the study of molecules containing O—O and S—S bonds, an analysis on the effect of level of theory and basis sets on electronic properties and geometrical parameters for H2O2 and H2S2 was done. Substitutions of one or both hydrogens in these molecules either by halogen atoms or alkyl groups were investigated for properties like geometries, dipole ...

Trafficking in persulfides: delivering sulfur in biosynthetic pathways

Nature Chemical Biology, 2006
The presence of sulfur in cofactors has been appreciated for over a century, but the trafficking and delivery of sulfur to cofactors and nucleosides is still not fully understood. In the last decade, great strides have been made toward understanding those processes and the enzymes that conduct them, including cysteine desulfurases and rhodanese ...
