Prevalence of polymorphisms at position 86 of the Pfmdr1 gene in Plasmodium falciparum parasites

open access: yesParasitologists United Journal, 2016
Background Malaria is one of the major public health problems in India. The majority of cases are because of Plasmodium falciparum. A sudden increase in chloroquine (CQ) resistance in P. falciparum cases has been noted. Of the various genetic alteration genes known, Pfmdr1 has been shown to be associated with CQ resistance.

The role of Pfmdr1 and Pfcrt in changing chloroquine, amodiaquine, mefloquine and lumefantrine susceptibility in western-Kenya P. falciparum samples during 2008-2011.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) in the Pfmdr1, and Pfcrt, genes of Plasmodium falciparum may confer resistance to a number of anti-malaria drugs. Pfmdr1 86Y and haplotypes at Pfcrt 72-76 have been linked to chloroquine (CQ) as well as amodiaquine (

Lack of selection of antimalarial drug resistance markers after intermittent preventive treatment of schoolchildren (IPTsc) against malaria in northeastern Tanzania

open access: yesInternational Journal of Infectious Diseases
Objective: Intermittent Preventive Treatment of schoolchildren (IPTsc) is recommended by WHO as a strategy to protect against malaria; to explore whether IPTsc with dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine (DP) or artesunate-amodiaquine (ASAQ) cause a selection of

Sequence Diversity of pfmdr1 and Sequence Conserve of pldh in Plasmodium falciparum from Indonesia: Its implications on Designing a Novel Antimalarial Drug with Less Prone to Resistance

open access: yesIranian Journal of Parasitology, 2013
Background: pfmdr1 and its variants are molecular marker which are responsible for antibiotics resistance in Plasmodium falciparum, a parasitic carrier for malaria dis-ease. A novel strategy to treat malaria disease is by disrupting parasite lactate dehy-
