Unconventional secretion of a rhamnose-binding lectin by Botryllus schlosseri phagocytes

open access: yesThe European Zoological Journal
Botryllus schlosseri is a colonial tunicate diffuse in shallow waters of all seas and oceans. When B. schlosseri haemocytes are challenged with nonself, circulating phagocytes respond to the recognition of foreign molecules with the synthesis and ...

Annexin Induces Cellular Uptake of Extracellular Vesicles and Delays Disease in Escherichia coli O157:H7 Infection

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2021
Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli secrete Shiga toxin and lead to hemolytic uremic syndrome. Patients have high levels of circulating prothrombotic extracellular vesicles (EVs) that expose phosphatidylserine and tissue factor and transfer Shiga toxin ...

Conjugated Porphyrin Polymer With Superior Charge Transfer for Photodynamic‐Immunomodulatory Prevention of CIED Infection in Diabetes

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Under NIR irradiation, PTCPP generates ROS to eliminate MRSA biofilms and promote M1 macrophage polarization for phagocytosis. After bacterial clearance, the material is phagocytosed by macrophages, shifting their polarization to M2 phenotype via metabolic reprogramming, which synergistically enhances anti‐infection therapy and wound healing.

Tumor‐Targeted Hyaluronic Acid/Tannic Acid‐Engineered Oxygen Nanogenerators With IR780 Payloads Enable Dual‐Mode Glutathione Depletion and Effective Singlet Oxygen Generation for Melanoma Treatment

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A hyaluronic acid/tannic acid‐engineered Prussian blue oxygen nanogenerator loaded with IR780 is developed to enhance melanoma phototherapy. By integrating tumor targeting, oxygen self‐supply, and dual‐mode glutathione depletion, the nanoplatform effectively overcomes hypoxia and antioxidant defenses, potentiating synergistic photothermal/photodynamic ...

Phagocytes of the transected feline optic nerve: anultrastructural study

open access: yes, 2007
Following eye enucleation, there is a spatio-temporal pattern of degeneration along the length of the feline optic nerve, and this depends on the proximity of the segment or zone to the transected end. Thus, the rate of axonal degeneration depends on how

How is Nanoarchitectonics Shaping Extracellular Vesicle Research?

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The convergence of nanoarchitectonics and extracellular vesicle biology is reshaping next‐generation nanomedicine by enabling rationally designed nanostructures for enhanced EVs detection, engineering, and therapy. ABSTRACT Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have gained recognition as crucial mediators of cell‐to‐cell communication, holding immense potential

Biosynthesis of DNA for disease detection.

open access: yesJurnal Mangifera Edu
An aquatic plant breathes through pores in the atmosphere, creating a bacterial loop cycle. Harmful toxins and pathogens invade the foreign substrate and recessive genes.

Mononuclear phagocytes locally specify and adapt their phenotype in a multiple sclerosis model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Mononuclear phagocytes are key regulators of both tissue damage and repair in neuroinflammatory conditions such as multiple sclerosis. To examine divergent phagocyte phenotypes in the inflamed CNS, we introduce an in vivo imaging approach that allows us ...

From Cell‐Derived Vesicles to Hybrid Nanovectors: Biological Membranes as Functional Blueprints for Gene Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Biologically derived and hybrid nonviral nanovectors are examined as distinct but convergent design approaches. Integrating synthetic components with biologically functionalized membranes allows efficient interactions with complex cellular environments.

Professional phagocytes: predators and prey of microorganisms

open access: yes, 2000
Phagocytosis is an ancient cellular function. However, professional phagocytes have evolved only in higher organisms, where they play an important role in host defence.
