Origin of phasic synaptic inhibition in myotomal motoneurons during fictive locomotion in the lamprey

Experimental Brain Research, 1993
The periodic membrane potential fluctuations in motoneurons during fictive locomotion in the lamprey, a primitive vertebrate, involve phasic synaptic excitation and inhibition. This paper investigates the origin of the phasic synaptic input to lamprey myotomal motoneurons in the in vitro spinal cord preparation with regard to the relative contribution ...

GAT‐1 regulates both tonic and phasic GABAA receptor‐mediated inhibition in the cerebral cortex [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, 2008
γ-Aminobutyric acid 1 (GAT-1) is the most copiously expressed GABA transporter; we studied its role in phasic and tonic inhibition in the neocortex using GAT-1 knockout (KO) mice.

Inhibition in crustacean phasic neuromuscular systems

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology, 1967
Abstract 1. 1. The neuromuscular systems of the closer muscle of the crab, Pachygrapsus crassipes Randall, and of the deep abdominal extensor muscler of the crayfish, Procambarus clarki (Girard), and the rock lobster, Panulirus interruptus (Randall), were investigated with respect to the effectiveness of the inhibitory axons on excitatory ...

Expectations affect the contribution of tonic global inhibition, but not of phasic global inhibition to motor imagery.

Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance, 2021
In motor imagery, effector-specific inhibition (inhibition of the used effector) and global inhibition (inhibition of all motor commands) prevent actual actions. Global inhibition is partly maintained over time (tonic global inhibition) and partly implemented in response to certain events (phasic global inhibition). We investigated whether expectations

Characteristics of sustained graded inspiratory inhibition by phasic lung volume changes

Journal of Applied Physiology, 1980
The dynamic characteristics of graded reversible inspiratory inhibition by vagal feedback were investigated in pentobarbital-anesthetized paralyzed cats, ventilated with a servo respirator. The volume and time associated with various levels of graded inhibition were determined by using a series of constant-flow lung inflations.

Benzbromarone inhibition of phasic smooth muscle contractions of mouse urinary bladder

Physiology, 2023
Calcium-activated chloride (ClCa) channels play a key role in generating pacemaker currents responsible for maintaining motility in the phasic smooth muscle of the gastrointestinal tract. These channels may play a similar role in the urinary bladder, resulting in the bladder exhibiting spontaneous phasic contractions.

Changes in short afferent inhibition during phasic movement in focal dystonia

Muscle & Nerve, 2007
AbstractImpaired surround inhibition could account for the abnormal motor control seen in patients with focal hand dystonia, but the neural mechanisms underlying surround inhibition in the motor system are not known. We sought to determine whether an abnormality of the influence of sensory input at short latency could contribute to the deficit of ...

Inhibition of aftercontractions and phasic calcium release by yohimbine in ferret papillary muscle

European Journal of Pharmacology, 1989
Phasic release of calcium from the sarcoplasmic reticulum occurs in all mammalian cardiac preparations when the intracellular calcium concentration is sufficiently high. The phasic calcium release is often sufficient to trigger electrophysiological responses and aftercontractions. These can be detrimental to normal cardiac function.

Arginine vasopressin inhibits phasic contractions and stimulates giant contractions in monkey colon

Gastroenterology, 1992
Abdominal cramps and urgent defecation are common side effects of clinical doses of arginine vasopressin, indicating that the drug may have stimulating effects on colonic motor activity. Four strain-gauge transducers were implanted on the colon in six monkeys. A blood flow probe was fixed on the inferior mesenteric artery.
