Megavirus baoshanense Mb0671 modulates host translation and increases viral fitness

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
Amoeba giant viruses encode many translation-related proteins, but the function of these proteins remains obscure. In the current work, we studied the potential eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4A (eIF4A, Mb0671) encoded by Megavirus baoshanense,

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Integrated multi-omics analysis reveals GPD1L-mediated dysregulation of glycerophospholipid metabolism facilitates the progression of lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesRespiratory Research
Background With the widespread of low-dose computed tomography (LDCT), an increasing number of early-stage lung adenocarcinomas (LUAD) presenting as ground-glass opacity (GGO) nodules are being detected.

ClpC1-dependent iron homeostasis underlies mycobacterial defense against oxygen-driven Fenton reaction during reactivation

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
The caseinolytic protease (Clp) system, which is highly conserved and essential for protein homeostasis in mycobacteria, comprises the ClpP1P2 proteolytic core and the essential ATPases ClpC1 and ClpX.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

AARS2-catalyzed lactylation induces follicle development and premature ovarian insufficiency

open access: yesCell Death Discovery
Lactate, a metabolite which is elevated in various developmental and pathological processes, exerts its signal through alanyl tRNA synthetases (AARS)-catalyzed protein lactylation.

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses

Phenotypes

open access: yes, 2012
This file contains the non-genetic data on each individual in the study. "Adipose" refers to the presence or absence of the adipose fin; salmon hatcheries in this region generally remove this fin prior to release.
