Impact of Phenotypic Correction Method and Missing Phenotypic Data on Genomic Prediction of Maize Hybrids

open access: yes, 2018
Phenotypic datasets in plant breeding are commonly incomplete due to missing phenotypic information. The best approach for correcting these datasets for a stage-wise genomic prediction (GP) is not unanimous in the scientific community.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...

Proteomic landscape of multidimensional aging phenotypes

open access: yesGenome Medicine
Proteomic signatures of aging hold promise for advancing our understanding of aging evaluation and guiding targeted therapy. Despite this potential, the proteomic landscape of multidimensional aging phenotypes remains inadequately characterized. We aimed to identify the potential proteomic biomarkers of aging process and decipher their molecular ...

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Biological aging partly mediates the association between physical activity and overactive bladder: evidence from NHANES 2007–2020

open access: yesClinical Epigenetics
Background Overactive bladder (OAB) impairs quality of life and may increase mortality risk. Physical activity (PA) is a modifiable behavior that could protect against OAB, but the role of biological aging as a potential mechanistic link remains unclear.

Biological aging, circulating lipid biomarkers and pancreatic diseases: a prospective cohort study based on the UK Biobank

open access: yesThe Journal of Nutrition, Health and Aging
Background: Biological aging refers to gradual declines in overall physiological function and can raise susceptibility to diseases. However, whether biological age acceleration is associated with pancreatic diseases remains unclear.

The MARK-AGE phenotypic database: Structure and strategy

open access: yesMechanisms of Ageing and Development, 2015
In the context of the MARK-AGE study, anthropometric, clinical and social data as well as samples of venous blood, buccal mucosal cells and urine were systematically collected from 3337 volunteers. Information from about 500 standardised questions and about 500 analysed biomarkers needed to be documented per individual.

Developmental programmes drive cellular plasticity, disease progression and therapy resistance in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that lung adenocarcinomas exploit developmental branching morphogenesis to acquire a therapy resistant basal‐like tumour cell state. This process was found to be regulated by combined TP53 loss‐of‐function and type‐I interferon signalling, identifying a novel axis for biomarker and therapeutic target discovery.

Construction and validation of a novel nutrient-based index for risk of aging using an interpretable machine learning framework: results from two population-based studies

open access: yesNutrition Journal
Background Population aging is becoming increasingly prominent. Although various dietary factors have been associated with aging in older people, no dietary score specifically related to phenotypic aging has yet been developed.

Flow Enabled Target Capture Halbach‐based magnetic enrichment increases circulating tumor cell capture from blood in metastatic cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pair‐wise comparison of the CellSearch and FETCH enrichment technologies for circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from metastatic breast, prostate, and small cell lung cancer patients shows an increased capture of CTCs using FETCH enrichment. The clinical implementation of circulating tumor cells (CTCs) as a predictive tool for therapy efficacy in the ...
