Seismic Design of Concrete Dams: An Integrated Risk‐Informed Performance‐Based (RIPB) Framework

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper advances the integration of risk‐informed principles into the seismic design of dams—a domain long guided by standards‐based, largely deterministic approaches. While performance‐based earthquake engineering is well established for buildings and bridges, its systematic adoption in dam engineering remains limited. We first address two

The Role of Digital Twin Technology in Enhancing Energy Efficiency in Buildings: A Systematic Literature Review

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Digital Twin (DT) technology enhances building energy efficiency by enabling continuous monitoring, predictive maintenance, and operational optimization within Building Energy Management Systems. Through real‐time data integration and simulation, DTs provide dynamic feedback loops that optimize performance, reduce operational costs, and improve ...

Making Room for Women in our Tools for Teaching Logic: A Proposal for Promoting Gender-Inclusiveness

open access: yes, 2015
Logic is one of the most male-dominated areas within the already hugely male-dominated subject of philosophy. Popular hypotheses for this disparity include a preponderance of confident, mathematically-minded male students in the classroom, the historical

Evaluating Youth Participatory Action Research in the Americas: Comparative Insights on Empowerment, Methodologies, and Social Change

open access: yesJournal of Adolescence, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) positions adolescents as co‐researchers to investigate and address social issues affecting their lives. While YPAR has gained global prominence, comparative research examining how it is conceptualized and practiced across regional contexts remains limited.

Caste as a Social Kind

open access: yesJournal of Applied Philosophy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Gender and race have received significant philosophical attention recently; they are the paradigm cases of social kinds in most philosophical accounts. I argue for the inclusion of caste as a social kind because it affects the lives of many people, and because it presents itself as an important test case for philosophers of social kinds.

Topological Engineering of High‐Order Exceptional Points Through Transformation Optics

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
A novel framework leveraging transformation optics is introduced for engineering high‐order exceptional points (EPs) in nanophotonic systems. By linking these spectral singularities to physically accessible parameters, this approach enables the design of complex EPs, including third and fourth‐order EPs in coupled nanowire systems.

Trajectory Control of Manipulator Robots With Uncertainties: A Saturated Continuous Integral Sliding Mode Approach

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mechanical System Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study addresses the trajectory tracking control for manipulator robots with uncertainties. The main objective is to ensure that the robot follows a desired trajectory despite the presence of uncertainties/disturbances and considering control input constraints. The approach is developed in the framework of continuous integral sliding modes.
