Molecular events involved in successful embryo implantation are not well understood. In this study, we used MALDI imaging mass spectrometry (IMS) technologies to characterize the spatial and temporal distribution of phospholipid species associated with ...

Dynamism of PI4-Phosphate during Interactions with Human Erythrocytes in Entamoeba histolytica
Phosphatidylinositol phosphates (PIPs) are involved in many cellular events as important secondary messengers. In Entamoeba histolytica, a human intestinal protozoan parasite, virulence-associated mechanisms such as cell motility, vesicular traffic ...

Targeted polypharmacology: discovery of dual inhibitors of tyrosine and phosphoinositide kinases. [PDF]
The clinical success of multitargeted kinase inhibitors has stimulated efforts to identify promiscuous drugs with optimal selectivity profiles. It remains unclear to what extent such drugs can be rationally designed, particularly for combinations of ...

Correlation of the differential expression of PIK3R1 and its spliced variant, p55α, in pan‐cancer
PIK3R1 undergoes alternative splicing to generate the isoforms, p85α and p55α. By combining large patient datasets with laboratory experiments, we show that PIK3R1 spliced variants shape cancer behavior. While tumors lose the protective p85α isoform, p55α is overexpressed, changes linked to poorer survival and more pronounced in African American ...

Cholesterol Depletion Delocalizes Phosphatidylinositol Bisphosphate and Inhibits Hormone-stimulated Phosphatidylinositol Turnover [PDF]
Caveolae and detergent-insoluble, glycosphingolipid-enriched domains (DIGs) are cholesterol-enriched membrane domains that have been implicated in signal transduction because a variety of signaling proteins as well as phosphatidylinositol bisphosphate (PtdInsP2) are compartmentalized in these domains.

Activation of native TRPC1/C5/C6 channels by endothelin-1 is mediated by both PIP3 and PIP2 in rabbit coronary artery myocytes [PDF]
We investigate activation mechanisms of native TRPC1/C5/C6 channels (termed TRPC1 channels) by stimulation of endothelin-1 (ET-1) receptor subtypes in freshly dispersed rabbit coronary artery myocytes using single channel recording and ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Fatty acid stimulation of membrane phosphatidylinositol hydrolysis by brain phosphatidylinositol phosphodiesterase [PDF]
The hydrolysis of membrane-bound phosphatidylinositol in rat liver microsomal fraction by the soluble phosphatidylinositol phosphodiesterase from rat brain was markedly stimulated by oleic acid or arachidonic acid. The stimulation did not require added calcium, although it was abolished by EDTA.
