Exercise‐specific plasma proteomic signatures in racehorses: Candidates for training adaptation and peak load monitoring

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Racehorses undergo profound physiological changes with training and competition, but current biomarkers inadequately capture the complex molecular dynamics of exercise. This study aimed to identify novel plasma biomarkers of training adaptation and peak load using high‐throughput proteomics.

Analyzing food supplements to enhance erectile system function for the presence of undeclared sildenafil and tadalafil using HPLC-DAD [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society
Phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitors, such as sildenafil and tadalafil, are drugs commonly used to improve erectile function. However, some erectile function-enhancing supplements with claims of being entirely natural may be adulterated with these ...

Oral phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors and sperm functions [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Impotence Research, 2008
This review aims to elucidate the possible effects of phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitors on sperm functions. PDEs hydrolyze cyclic nucleotides, and together with adenylyl and guanylyl cyclase, which catalyze the formation of cAMP and cGMP, regulate the levels of these second messengers in cells.

Potential neuroprotective and therapeutic agents and their mechanisms for irradiation‐induced brain injury

open access: yesIbrain, EarlyView.
In this review, agents such baicalein, troxerutin, epigallocatechin gallate, quercetin, melatonin, valproic acid, lithium, neurosteroid progesterone, as well as minocycline have been implicated as neuroprotective agents for irradiation‐induced neurological deficits. Also, agents such as glucocorticoids, methylphenidate, vitamin E, bisdemethoxycurcumin,

Inhibition of PDE5 restores depressed baroreflex sensitivity in renovascular hypertensive rats

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2016
Renal artery stenosis is frequently associated with resistant hypertension, which is defined as failure to normalize blood pressure (BP) even when combined drugs are used.

Oleoylethanolamide regulates intestinal stem cell activity and villus size via PPARα signaling pathway

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
First use of a natural swine model with lipid metabolism to directly link lipid differences to a quantifiable intestinal villus height phenotype. Identified the phospholipid‐derived oleoylethanolamide, rather than canonical fatty acids, as the endogenous primary ligand that activates peroxisome proliferator‐activated receptors α (PPARα) to enlarge ...

Corticosterone and Mitochondrial Efficiency Are Associated With Changes in DNA Oxidative Damage During an Acute Stress Response in Leach's Storm‐Petrels (Hydrobates leucorhous)

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The ability of organisms to effectively respond to challenges is critical for survival. We investigated how an acute stressor affected corticosterone, mitochondrial function, and DNA oxidative damage in a wild population of Leach's storm‐petrels (Hydrobates leucorhous).

Endothelial Dysfunction, Erectile Dysfunction and Phosphodiesterase 5 Inhibitors. An Update of the Current Data and Future Perspectives

open access: yesDrug Target Insights, 2007
Endothelial dysfunction is a pathological entity that multiply affects the health status. Erectile dysfunction is being recognized as a condition that is strongly interrelated with endothelial dysfunction, being a vascular event itself.
