Glutathione Peroxidase Isolated from Plasma Reduces Phospholipid Hydroperoxides
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1993The reactivities of a selenoenzyme, glutathione peroxidase isolated from plasma, against phosphatidylcholine hydroperoxides and photoperoxidized erythrocyte ghosts have been investigated. Glutathione peroxidase isolated from plasma was found to catalyze the reduction of phosphatidylcholine hydroperoxides to the corresponding hydroxy derivatives.

Possible function of two insect phospholipid-hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidases
Journal of Insect Physiology, 2003We compared the functional properties of two insect members of the phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidases (PHGPx) family, VLP1, a major component of virus-like particles from the hymenopteran endoparasitoid Venturia canescens and its closest Drosophila relative, one of the putative PHGPx-proteins predicted from the Berkeley Drosophila ...

A Selenium‐Containing Phospholipid‐Hydroperoxide Glutathione Peroxidase in Schistosoma mansoni
European Journal of Biochemistry, 1996The 1000000×g supernatant of the parasite platyhelminth Schistosoma mansoni exhibits a glutathione peroxidase activity with the substrate phosphatidylcholine hydroperoxide. Purification yielded a protein of 20 kDa molecular mass both on gel filtration column chromatography and SDS/PAGE, thus suggesting that S. mansoni expresses a protein similar to the

The interfacial behavior differences of two glutathione peroxidase isoforms have been investigated. The first isoform is the phospholipid-hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.12) (GPx-4) isolated from rat testes and the second one is the cytosolic glutathione peroxidase (EC 1.11.1.9) (GPx-1) from bovine erythrocytes. Injected in the subphase

Phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase (PHGPx) is a selenoprotein, which protects biomembranes from oxidative damage, and accounts for most of the selenium content in the mammalian testis. There are at least three different variants of this protein: cytosolic, mitochondrial and nuclear.

Molecular characterization of phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidases from Hydra vulgaris
Gene, 2006Apparent full-length cDNA sequences coding respectively for mitochondrial (HvGPx41) and nuclear (HvGPx42) phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase were isolated from Hydra vulgaris. The cDNA sequences share total identity in their 3'-end and differ in their 5'-end.

Cloning of the mouse phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase gene.
FEBS letters, 199915-Lipoxygenases and phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidases (PH-GPx) are counterparts in the metabolism of hydroperoxy lipids and a balanced regulation of both enzymes appears to be important for the cellular peroxide tone regulating the expression of redox sensitive genes.
