Picornavirus IRES: Structure Function Relationship

Current Pharmaceutical Design, 2004
Picornavirus infections have been a challenging problem in human health. Genome organisation of picornavirus is unique in having a long, heavily-structured, multifunctional 5'untranslated region, preceding a single open reading frame from which all viral proteins are produced.

Regulation of picornavirus gene expression

Microbes and Infection, 2004
Members of the Picornaviridae are positive- strand RNA viruses that cause a variety of human diseases such as poliomyelitis, the common cold, myocarditis, and hepatitis. Although the diseases caused by picornaviruses are diverse, the genome organization and mechanisms of gene expression are highly conserved among family members.

[(Biaryloxy)alkyl]isoxazoles: Picornavirus Inhibitors

Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 1995
A series of biphenyl analogs, 6, of 5-[5-(2,6-dichloro-5-oxazolylphenoxy)pentyl]-3-methylisoxazole (2) have been synthesized and tested in vitro against 10 human rhinovirus serotypes in a TCID50 assay. The most potent compound in the series 6s, 3-[3-[2,6-dimethyl-4-(4-fluorophenyl)-phenoxy]propyl]-3-methylisoxazole , was screened against an additional ...

Picornavirus-like Structures in Acute Dermatomyositis

American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1972
A case of acute fatal dermatomyositis occurring in a young girl is described. Clinically, there was pronounced involvement of the striated muscles, skin, and brain. The patient died 11 weeks after acute symptoms began. Histologically, there was a marked myositis, with atrophy of muscle fibers, myolysis, and mononuclear infiltrates. Examination with the

Picornavirus Structure Overview

2014
In many cases, structures have been determined, often using the lower resolution cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) technique, of picornaviruses in complex with their cellular receptors, neutralizing antibodies, antiviral compounds, or other, biologically significant ligands.

Picornavirus Genetics: an Overview

2014
This chapter overviews the mechanisms underlying the stability and especially the variability of the picornavirus phenotype and genotype. It also talks about the principles of genetic analysis of viral functions and of manipulations with the viral genome.
