PIEZO2‐dependent rapid pain system in humans and mice
SummaryThe PIEZO2 ion channel is critical for transducing light touch into neural signals but is not considered necessary for transducing acute pain in humans. Here, we discovered an exception – a form of mechanical pain evoked by hair pulling. Based on observations in a rare group of individuals with PIEZO2 deficiency syndrome, we demonstrated that ...

An ultralight, multilayer anisotropic tactile sensor—an artificial Pacinian corpuscle—exhibits ultrahigh tangential sensitivity (1022 kPa−1) and spatiotemporal sensing. It discriminates static, sliding, and rolling contacts, detects incipient stick–slip via high‑frequency signatures, and enhances robotic touch (100%/98.18% accuracy for active/passive ...

PIEZO1 Channels Modulate the Small Extracellular Vesicle Release in C2C12 Cells
ABSTRACT PIEZO1 are mechanically‐activated ion channels expressed in many cell types. Their pharmacological activation by the selective agonist Yoda1 has been reported to favor skeletal muscle regeneration by controlling the fate of myogenic precursors cells, but the underlying mechanisms remain largely unknown.

The changing landscape of membrane protein structural biology through developments in electron microscopy [PDF]
Membrane proteins are ubiquitous in biology and are key targets for therapeutic development. Despite this, our structural understanding has lagged behind that of their soluble counterparts.

This study aimed to elucidate the function of PIEZO1in AF cells under mechanical stimulation. Low‐magnitude cyclictensile strain (CTS, 2%) suppressed osteogenic marker expression. Pharmacological activation of PIEZO1 using Yoda1 mimics the effects oflow‐strain CTS.

Mechanosensitive ion channel Piezo2 is inhibited by D-GsMTx4 [PDF]
Enterochromaffin (EC) cells are the primary mechanosensors of the gastrointestinal (GI) epithelium. In response to mechanical stimuliEC cells release serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine; 5-HT). The molecular details ofEC cell mechanosensitivity are poorly understood.

Human phenotypes caused by PIEZO1 mutations; one gene, two overlapping phenotypes? [PDF]
PIEZO1 is a large mechanosensitive ion channel protein. Diseases associated with PIEZO1 include autosomal recessive Generalised Lymphatic Dysplasia of Fotiou (GLDF) and autosomal dominant Dehydrated Hereditary Stomatocytosis with or without ...
