Protein kinase regulated by dsRNA downregulates the interferon production in dengue virus- and dsRNA-stimulated human lung epithelial cells. [PDF]
Dengue virus (DENV) is found in the tropical and subtropical regions and affects millions of people annually. Currently, no specific vaccine or antiviral treatment against dengue virus is available. Innate immunity has been shown to be important for host

An integrated stress response via PKR suppresses HER2+ cancers and improves trastuzumab therapy
Trastuzumab is integral to HER2+ cancer treatment, but its therapeutic index is narrowed by the development of resistance. Phosphorylation of the translation initiation factor eIF2α (eIF2α-P) is the nodal point of the integrated stress response, which ...

Interaction of PKR with Single Stranded RNA [PDF]
AbstractAlthough the antiviral kinase PKR was originally characterized as a double-stranded RNA activated enzyme it can be stimulated by RNAs containing limited secondary structure. Single-stranded regions in such RNAs contribute to binding and activation but the mechanism is not understood.

Rapid evolution of protein kinase PKR alters sensitivity to viral inhibitors. [PDF]
Protein kinase PKR (also known as EIF2AK2) is activated during viral infection and phosphorylates the alpha subunit of eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 (eIF2), leading to inhibition of translation and viral replication. We report fast evolution

Hamiltonian symmetries in auxiliary-field quantum Monte Carlo calculations for electronic structure [PDF]
We describe how to incorporate symmetries of the Hamiltonian into auxiliary-field quantum Monte Carlo calculations (AFQMC). Focusing on the case of Abelian symmetries, we show that the computational cost of most steps of an AFQMC calculation is reduced ...

Alkyltriphenylphosphonium Binding to Cardiolipin Triggers Oncosis in Cancer Cells
Alkyltriphenylphosphonium, exemplified by TPP+‐C14, preferentially accumulates in mitochondria and selectively binds to cardiolipin, a key phospholipid of the inner mitochondrial membrane, causing loss of mitochondrial membrane potential, severe cellular ATP depletion, and calcium imbalance.

The interferon-inducible protein kinase R (PKR) is a key component of host innate immunity that restricts viral replication and propagation. As one of the four eIF2α kinases that sense diverse stresses and direct the integrated stress response (ISR ...

The caspase-generated fragments of PKR cooperate to activate full-length PKR and inhibit translation [PDF]
We have studied the involvement of receptor interacting protein kinase-1 (RIP1) and dsRNA-activated protein kinase (PKR) in external dsRNA-induced apoptotic and necrotic cell death in Jurkat T cell lymphoma. Our results suggest that RIP1 plays an imported role in dsRNA-induced apoptosis and necrosis.

Researchers identified a pancreatic cancer subset with low global protein synthesis but heightened translation of stress‐response genes like ATF4, rendering cells resistant to chemotherapy and apoptosis. These tumors depend on serine and cysteine from surrounding cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs), which shift to produce serine by curbing collagen ...

Compressive PCA for Low-Rank Matrices on Graphs [PDF]
We introduce a novel framework for an approxi- mate recovery of data matrices which are low-rank on graphs, from sampled measurements. The rows and columns of such matrices belong to the span of the first few eigenvectors of the graphs constructed ...
