STKE Vascular proliferative diseases, such as atherosclerosis and coronary restenosis, are characterized by dedifferentiation, abnormal proliferation, and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells, a pathophysiological reaction to injury that has been interpreted as a response to cytokines released by inflammatory cells.

Stochastic model of the place cell discharge
1999The firing activity of place cells of the hippocampus reflects movements of an animal in its experimental area. This well known fact was recently reinvestigated (Fenton and Muller, 1998) and it was found that while the activity was highly reliable in space, it did not retain the same reliability in time. The number of spikes discharged during different

On the placing of balls in cells
International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 1998In this paper we suggest that those who teach probability calculus and the foundations of mathematical statistics should give attention to the problem described.

A place for place cells in post-stroke cognitive impairment
Trends in NeurosciencesIn a recent study, Heiser et al. showed that hippocampal place cell stability and spatial encoding were disrupted in mice after brain-wide microstrokes. These findings suggest that hippocampal neurons are particularly vulnerable to dysfunction after stroke, even in the absence of local lesions.

PLACE CELLS. Autoassociative dynamics in the generation of sequences of hippocampal place cells.
Science (New York, N.Y.), 2015Neuronal circuits produce self-sustaining sequences of activity patterns, but the precise mechanisms remain unknown. Here we provide evidence for autoassociative dynamics in sequence generation. During sharp-wave ripple (SWR) events, hippocampal neurons express sequenced reactivations, which we show are composed of discrete attractors.

Noradrenergic regulation of hippocampal place cells
Hippocampus, 2001AbstractThe influence of noradrenergic input to the hippocampus was assessed by recording hippocampal place cells and by modulating the noradrenergic tone with a selective agonist and antagonist of the α2‐autoreceptors. The rats received intraperitoneal injection of 5 μg/kg of dexmedetomidine (DEX), an α2‐agonist, 0.2 mg/kg of atipamezole (ATI), an α2 ...
