Packaging of Macroscopic Material Payloads: Needs, Challenges, Concepts, and Future Directions
This review introduces a unified framework that decomposes any macroscopic packaging system into the payload, packaging material, and packaging strategy and combines them into a conceptual packaging equation: packaging strategy = payload + packaging material.

Wnt proteins can direct planar cell polarity in vertebrate ectoderm
The coordinated orientation of cells across the tissue plane, known as planar cell polarity (PCP), is manifested by the segregation of core PCP proteins to different sides of the cell.

The Kidney and Planar Cell Polarity [PDF]
Planar cell polarity (PCP) or tissue polarity describes a coordinated polarity at the plane of the tissue where most or all cells within a tissue are polarized in one direction. It is perpendicular to the apical-basal polarity of the cell. PCP is manifested readily in the Drosophila wing and cuticle bristles, Drosophila eye ommatidia, and mammalian ...

Hair cell identity establishes labeled lines of directional mechanosensation. [PDF]
Directional mechanoreception by hair cells is transmitted to the brain via afferent neurons to enable postural control and rheotaxis. Neuronal tuning to individual directions of mechanical flow occurs when each peripheral axon selectively synapses with ...

Photoswitchable Conductive Metal–Organic Frameworks
A conductive material where the conductivity can be modulated remotely by irradiation with light is presented. It is based on films of conductive metal–organic framework type Cu3(HHTP)2 with embedded photochromic molecules such as azobenzene, diarylethene, spiropyran, and hexaarylbiimidazole in the pores.

Enhanced photoelectric and photothermal responses on silicon platform by plasmonic absorber and omni-schottky junction [PDF]
Recent progresses in plasmon-induced hot electrons open up the possibility to achieve photon harvesting beyond the fundamental limit imposed by band-to-band transitions in semiconductors.
