Untargeted metabolomics reveals immune-metabolic signatures in established cases of rheumatoid arthritis

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences
IntroductionRheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a complex progressive autoimmune disorder wherein chronic inflammation is tightly coupled to metabolic reprogramming. The known diagnostic markers are not sensitive and specific enough to reflect disease activity.

Longitudinal genome‐wide aneuploidy measurements in circulating cell‐free DNA to predict lack of benefit from pembrolizumab in patients with metastatic urothelial cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Many patients with urothelial cancer do not benefit from treatment with pembrolizumab, while at risk of severe side effects. Changes in the levels of circulating tumor DNA early during treatment, measured by a simple and affordable assay that can be easily implemented in the clinic, can be used as a prognostic tool to identify these patients.

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Diagnostic performance of plasma p-Tau217, p-Tau181, and p-Tau231 across the Alzheimer’s disease continuum: a network meta-analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience
ImportanceBlood-based biomarkers (BBMs) are transforming the diagnostic workflow for Alzheimer’s disease (AD). However, there is no consensus on the optimal phosphorylated tau (p-tau) isoform (217, 181, or 231) or analytical platform [mass spectrometry ...

Plasma Biomarkers in a Mouse Model of Preterm Labor [PDF]

open access: yesPediatric Research, 2009
Preterm labor (PTL) is frequently associated with inflammation. We hypothesized that biomarkers during pregnancy can identify pregnancies most at risk for development of PTL. An inflammation-induced mouse model of PTL was used. Surface-enhanced laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry was used to analyze and compare the plasma ...

UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

Emerging insights into CC and CXC chemokines and their receptors in Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dual roles of CC and CXC chemokines in distinguishing active, latent, and subclinical tuberculosis were reviewed, along with an evaluation of their potential as diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets to advance precision medicine in tuberculosis management. The graphical abstract was generated with AI assistance (Gemini 3.0).

Detection of lung allograft injury through a comprehensive multidisciplinary analysis of donor-derived cell-free DNA in plasma and bronchoalveolar lavage: a real-world single center experience

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
IntroductionPlasma donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) is an emerging potential tool for diagnosing lung graft injury. This study explored the relevance of dd-cfDNA levels in different graft injuries thoroughly characterized after a well-established ...

Cross‐sectional and longitudinal evaluation of plasma glial fibrillary acidic protein to detect and predict clinical syndromes of Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesAlzheimer’s & Dementia: Diagnosis, Assessment & Disease Monitoring, 2023
Introduction This study examined plasma glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) as a biomarker of cognitive impairment due to Alzheimer's disease (AD) with and against plasma neurofilament light chain (NfL), and phosphorylated tau (p‐tau)181+231.
