A new role for an old antimicrobial: lysozyme c-1 can function to protect malaria parasites in Anopheles mosquitoes. [PDF]
Plasmodium requires an obligatory life stage in its mosquito host. The parasites encounter a number of insults while journeying through this host and have developed mechanisms to avoid host defenses.

Chromosome translocation inPlasmodium berghei
We describe a chromosome translocation in a karyotype mutant of the rodent malarial parasite Plasmodium berghei. In this mutant (named EP) a small chromosome (chromosome 7), which has exhibited a size range between 0.9 and 1.4 Mb in other clones of P. berghei, is translocated to chromosome 13 or 14 with a size of about 3 Mb.

Plasmodium ookinete surface proteins as post-fertilization target antigens are potential malaria transmission-blocking vaccine (TBV) candidates. Putative secreted ookinete protein 25 (PSOP25) is a highly conserved ookinete surface protein, and has been ...

Plasmodium berghei circumvents immune responses induced by merozoite surface protein 1- and apical membrane antigen 1-based vaccines. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Two current leading malaria blood-stage vaccine candidate antigens for Plasmodium falciparum, the C-terminal region of merozoite surface protein 1 (MSP1(19)) and apical membrane antigen 1 (AMA1), have been prioritized because of outstanding ...

Rapid and Specific Action of Methylene Blue against Plasmodium Transmission Stages
Methylene blue (MB) is the oldest synthetic anti-infective. Its high potency against asexual and sexual stages of malaria parasites is well documented.

Prophylactic effects of Kaempferia Galanga against Plasmodium berghei: in vivo study
Recently, medicinal plants have been the main source in treating malaria. Kaempferia galanga was investigated as an antioxidant, and anti-inflammation. In vivo study of K. galanga had been verified as antimalarial for severe malaria.
