A DIA‐MS‐based proteomics approach to find potential serum prognostic biomarkers in glioblastoma patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A DIA‐MS‐based proteomics analysis of serum samples from GB patients and healthy controls showed that high levels of IL1R2 and low levels of CRTAC1 and HRG in serum are associated with poor survival outcomes for GB patients. These circulating proteins could serve as biomarkers for the prediction of outcome in patients with GB.

Evaluation and modification of tumor cell isolation techniques from malignant effusions for rapid drug sensitivity testing

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Non‐small cell lung cancer targeted treatment is limited to a few known genetic alterations, with few alternatives in advanced treatment lines. To direct treatment decisions by drug sensitivity testing (DST), this study compared several methods for tumor cell isolation from malignant effusions, pointing to repeated CD45+ cell depletion for effective ...

Thrombospondin promotes platelet aggregation [PDF]

open access: yesBlood, 1988
Abstract Thrombospondin (TSP), isolated from human platelets, promotes aggregation of both nonstimulated platelets and platelets stimulated with thrombin or ADP. The TSP-promoted aggregation is specific since a monoclonal antibody against TSP inhibits the effect of exogenously added TSP and inhibits thrombin-induced platelet aggregation ...

Association of high‐dose radioactive iodine therapy with PPM1D‐mutated clonal hematopoiesis in older individuals

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In thyroid cancer patients, high‐dose (≥7.4 GBq) radioactive iodine therapy (RAIT) was associated with a higher prevalence of clonal hematopoiesis (variant allele frequency >2%) in individuals aged ≥50 years (OR = 2.44). In silico analyses showed that truncating PPM1D mutations conferred a selective advantage under these conditions.

Platelet aggregation by oral streptococci [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1990
One proposed mechanism in the pathogenesis of infective endocarditis is the direct aggregation of platelets by the bacteria causing the disease. Some, but not all, strains of Streptococcus sanguis have been reported to aggregate platelets but the taxonomy of this and related taxa has changed recently.

Comprehensive profiling of lncRNAs and mRNAs enriched in small extracellular vesicles for early noninvasive detection of colorectal cancer: diagnostic panel assembly and extensive validation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Small extracellular vesicles are a promising source of diagnostic molecules. We conducted a comprehensive study, including transcriptome profiling and RT‐qPCR validation on large cohorts of samples. Diagnostic panels enabling sensitive detection of colorectal cancer and precancerous lesions were established. Some molecules were differentially expressed

PKC and AKT Modulate cGMP/PKG Signaling Pathway on Platelet Aggregation in Experimental Sepsis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Sepsis severity has been positively correlated with platelet dysfunction, which may be due to elevations in nitric oxide (NO) and cGMP levels. Protein kinase C, Src kinases, PI3K and AKT modulate platelet activity in physiological conditions, but no ...

Olaparib synergy screen reveals Exemestane induces replication stress in triple‐negative breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Screening 166 FDA‐approved anticancer drugs identifies the aromatase inhibitor Exemestane as a synergistic partner of PARP inhibitor Olaparib in BRCA‐proficient triple‐negative breast cancer. Exemestane induces ROS‐mediated replication stress, enhancing DNA damage and apoptosis alongside Olaparib.

Evaluation of an automated light transmission aggregometry

open access: yesPlatelets, 2017
Light transmission aggregometry (LTA) is the “gold standard” for platelet function assessment, but it is time-consuming and labor intensive. Recently, an automated platelet aggregation method has been developed on a routine coagulation analyzer (Sysmex ...

Glycine reduces platelet aggregation [PDF]

open access: yesAmino Acids, 2012
It has been demonstrated that a wide variety of white blood cells and macrophages (i.e. Kupffer cells, alveolar and peritoneal macrophages and neutrophils) contain glycine-gated chloride channels. Binding of glycine on the receptor stimulates Cl− influx causing membrane hyperpolarization that prevents agonist-induced influx of calcium.
