Permeability and conductivity of platelet-reinforced membranes and composites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We present large scale simulations of the diffusion constant $D$ of a random composite consisting of aligned platelets with aspect ratio $a/b>>1$ in a matrix (with diffusion constant $D_0$) and find that $D/D_0 = 1/(1+ c_1 x + c_2 x^2)$, where $x= a v_f/b$ and $v_f$ is the platelet volume fraction.

Rupture Forces among Human Blood Platelets at different Degrees of Activation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Little is known about mechanics underlying the interaction among platelets during activation and aggregation. Although the strength of a blood thrombus has likely major biological importance, no previous study has measured directly the adhesion forces of single platelet-platelet interaction at different activation states.

Autophagy in Extracellular Matrix and Wound Healing Modulation in the Cornea

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2022
Autophagy is a robust cellular mechanism for disposing of harmful molecules or recycling them to cells, which also regulates physiopathological processes in cornea.

Three-dimensional Multiscale Model of Deformable Platelets Adhesion to Vessel Wall in Blood Flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
When a blood vessel ruptures or gets inflamed, the human body responds by rapidly forming a clot to restrict the loss of blood. Platelets aggregation at the injury site of the blood vessel occurring via platelet-platelet adhesion, tethering and rolling on the injured endothelium is a critical initial step in blood clot formation.

Isolation of Some Platelet Membrane Glycoproteins [PDF]

open access: yesThrombosis and Haemostasis, 1977
The platelet is surrounded by a pronounced glycocalix formed by carbohydrate moieties of the membrane glycoproteins. The number of glycoproteins of the outer platelet membrane is greater in number than had previously been reported : when solubilized membranes are analyzed by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis the number of separated carbohydrate ...

Consensus interpretation on "Expert consensus on clinical application of tirofiban in atherosclerotic cerebrovascular disease"

open access: yesChinese Journal of Contemporary Neurology and Neurosurgery, 2020
Platelet glycoprotein (GP) Ⅱ b/Ⅲ a receptor is the final common pathway of platelet aggregation and thrombosis, which can specifically and rapidly inhibit platelet aggregation. In recent years, more and more evidences support that tirofiban, a GP Ⅱ b/Ⅲ a

9.5 COAGULATION CONTROL BY THE RHOA PATHWAY AND THE EXCHANGE FACTOR ARHGEF1

open access: yesArtery Research, 2016
Platelet activation by thrombin is an auto-amplification loop of thrombin generation, a major factor in the formation of atherosclerotic plaques. The small G protein RhoA, under the direct control of the exchange factor Arhgef1, modulates several ...

Attaining scalable storage-expansion dualism for bioartificial tissues [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
The untenable dependence of cryopreservation on cytotoxic cryoprotectants has motivated the mining of biochemical libraries to identify molecular features marking cryoprotectants that may prevent ice crystal growth. It is hypothesized that such molecules may be useful across all temperatures eliminating cellular destruction due to equilibration ...

Biological functions of lysosomal membrane-associated glycoproteins [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Lysosomes are the final repository of degradation products from the extracellular and intracellular spaces. The lysosomal membrane forms a unique vacuole participating in both endocytosis and autophagocytosis.

The human platelet transcriptome and proteome is altered and pro-thrombotic functional responses are increased during prolonged hypoxia exposure at high altitude

open access: yesPlatelets, 2020
Exposure to hypoxia, through ascension to high altitudes (HAs), air travel, or human disease, is associated with an increased incidence of thrombosis in some settings. Mechanisms underpinning this increased thrombosis risk remain incompletely understood,
