Conformational change of organic cofactor PLP is essential for catalysis in PLP-dependent enzymes

open access: yesBMB Reports, 2022
Pyridoxal 5’-phosphate (PLP)-dependent enzymes are ubiquitous, catalyzing various biochemical reactions of approximately 4% of all classified enzymatic activities. They transform amines and amino acids into important metabolites or signaling molecules and are important drug targets in many diseases.

The Gut Commensal Butyricimonas Virosa Modulates Gut Microbiota‐Dependent Thiamine Metabolism and Attenuates Mouse Steatotic Liver Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that dietary stachyose enriches Butyricimonas virosa, effectively attenuating metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Mechanistically, B. virosa enhances gut thiamine monophosphate synthesis, which elevates hepatic thiamine pyrophosphate levels.

131I-Traced PLGA-Lipid Nanoparticles as Drug Delivery Carriers for the Targeted Chemotherapeutic Treatment of Melanoma

open access: yesNanoscale Research Letters, 2017
Herein, folic acid (FA) conjugated Poly(d,l-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA)-lipid composites (FA-PL) were developed as nanocarriers for the targeted delivery of insoluble anti-cancer drug paclitaxel (PTX), resulting FA-PLP nanoparticles.

Pyridoxal phosphate synthases PdxS/PdxT are required for Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae viability, stress tolerance and virulence. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP) is an essential cofactor for numerous enzymes involved in a diversity of cellular processes in living organisms. Previous analysis of the Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae S-8 genome sequence revealed the presence of pdxS and ...

Outstanding 1200 °C Oxidation Resistance in a Novel Multi‐Principal Element Alloy via Lattice Distortion‐Induced Diffusion Suppression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The unique lamellar structure of the eutectic alloy promotes selective oxidation of Al initially, while lattice distortion‐induced diffusion suppression slows oxide growth during steady state. Combining these strategies, a Multi‐Principal Element Alloy with excellent oxidation resistance at 1200℃ was designed.

A Survey of Pyridoxal 5′-Phosphate-Dependent Proteins in the Gram-Positive Model Bacterium Bacillus subtilis

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2019
The B6 vitamer pyridoxal 5′-phosphate (PLP) is a co-factor for proteins and enzymes that are involved in diverse cellular processes. Therefore, PLP is essential for organisms from all kingdoms of life.

Subtle myelin defects in PLP‐null mice

open access: yesGlia, 2006
AbstractThis study explores subtle defects in the myelin of proteolipid protein (PLP)‐null mice that could potentially underlie the functional losses and axon damage known to occur in this mutant and in myelin diseases including multiple sclerosis. We have compared PLP‐null central nervous system (CNS) myelin with normal myelin using ultrastructural ...

The Lateral Membrane Organization and Dynamics of Myelin Proteins PLP and MBP Are Dictated by Distinct Galactolipids and the Extracellular Matrix

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
In the central nervous system, lipid-protein interactions are pivotal for myelin maintenance, as these interactions regulate protein transport to the myelin membrane as well as the molecular organization within the sheath. To improve our understanding of

‘The Other Parent’: A Critical Policy Analysis of Fatherhood Discourses in the Australian Government's Paid Parental Leave Scheme

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Australian paid parental leave (PPL) government scheme aims to support working parents through financial assistance and the promotion of gender equality in caregiving responsibilities. However, the scheme's implementation has been critiqued for its gendered design, which marginalises fathers and reinforces traditional gender roles.
