Optimal pole-placement in discrete systems

Summary: This note develops a technique to increase the damping in a closed-loop discrete-time system by modifying a nominal linear quadratic performance criterion. The technique uses the multiple solutions of the discrete-time algebraic Riccati equation to modify the nominal criterion.

An Approximate Pole Placement Approach

A recently developed design method is applied to the benchmark problem. The design method may be viewed as a numerical loop-shaping method that also permits approximate assignment of the dominant poles of the closed-loop system. Solutions with different properties are obtained depending on the choice of closed-loop poles.

Robust and Adaptive Pole Placement
