Optimal pole-placement in discrete systems
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 1989Summary: This note develops a technique to increase the damping in a closed-loop discrete-time system by modifying a nominal linear quadratic performance criterion. The technique uses the multiple solutions of the discrete-time algebraic Riccati equation to modify the nominal criterion.

\(l_1\)-suboptimal pole placement design
IEEE Trans. Autom. Control., 2000Summary: We incorporate an arbitrary number of ``candidate'' positive distinct poles into the scalar \(l_1\) optimization framework in order to obtain low-order rational suboptimal solutions to constrained \(l_1\) optimization problems. Our approach uses a single linear program to minimize an upper bound on the \(l_1\) norm and gives a solution that ...

A New Approach to Optimal Regional Pole Placement
Automatica, 1997The following multi-constraints optimal regional pole placement for linear time-invariant systems is considered. Find a controller which minimizes the performance criterion and such that the closed-loop poles lie in a prespecified region. Necessary conditions for the problem solution are derived and an algorithm for finding the optimal solution is ...

Application of Robust and Adaptive Pole Placement
1989 American Control Conference, 1989AbstractThe previous investigation showed the usefulness of a two‐degree‐of‐freedom configuration. Such a controller can also be designed using pole placement. An adaptive controller based on this concept is developed and applied to the problem with good results.

Pole placement and related problems
Kybernetika, 1992Summary: We survey recent work in pole placement and related problems which are notably matrix completion, placement of the zeroes of a triple and feedback simulation. For each of these points we examine the existing and open field, and we point out the connection with pole placement by the use of matrix pencil formulation.

Decentralized pole placement: An example
1985 24th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 1985Recently a method for decentralized pole placement based on the internal system structure and root locus was introduced. This procedure is reviewed here and applied to a two area power system with decentralized output feedback. A complete characterization of the attainable composite system poles in given.

Robustness in partial pole placement
IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, 1987The robustness of state feedback solutions to the partial pole assignment problem obtained by Saad's projection method is considered. It is shown, that the sensitivity of the assigned poles to perturbations in the closed-loop system matrices can be bounded in terms of the sensivities of the assigned poles of the reduced order pole assignment problem ...

An Approximate Pole Placement Approach
1991 American Control Conference, 1991A recently developed design method is applied to the benchmark problem. The design method may be viewed as a numerical loop-shaping method that also permits approximate assignment of the dominant poles of the closed-loop system. Solutions with different properties are obtained depending on the choice of closed-loop poles.

Robust and Adaptive Pole Placement
1988 American Control Conference, 1988In this paper the problem is solved using a self-tuner based in indirect adaptive pole placement. This design approach fits nicely to the specifications given. The design method for the case of known parameters is first presented. The adaptive algorithm is then given.

On the properties of pole placement regulators
1986 25th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 1986The frequency domain properties of pole placement regulators are studied, and the influence of the regulator on the model quality is discussed. Some methods to affect the regulator properties are discussed.
