Polyhexamethylene Biguanide (PHMB) in the Treatment of Experimental Fusarium Keratomycosis

open access: yesCornea, 1997
We wanted to determine whether topical polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) 0.02% was effective in the treatment of experimental Fusarium keratomycosis in rabbits.Fusarium solani keratomycosis was induced in the eyes of 12 New Zealand white rabbits. The rabbits were treated with PHMB 0.02% in one eye and placebo in the other eye for 6 days.

Uptake and release of polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) from hydrogel and silicone hydrogel contact lenses using a radiolabel methodology

Contact Lens and Anterior Eye, 2022
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the uptake and release of radiolabelled polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) on reusable daily wear contact lenses (CLs) over 7 days.Three silicone hydrogel (SH) contact lens materials (lotrafilcon B, balafilcon A, senofilcon A) and two conventional hydrogel (CH) materials (etafilcon A, omafilcon A) were examined.

Reduced cytotoxicity of polyhexamethylene biguanide hydrochloride (PHMB) by egg phosphatidylcholine while maintaining antimicrobial efficacy

Chemico-Biological Interactions, 2011
Liposomes or oil-in-water emulsions containing egg yolk phosphatidylcholine (EPC) were combined with aqueous polyhexamethylene biguanide hydrochloride (PHMB). The bactericidal activity of these preparations against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus as well as their cytotoxicity on cultured murine fibroblasts (L929 cells) was then assayed

Clinical protective effects of polyhexamethylene biguanide hydrochloride (PHMB) against Vibrio parahaemolyticus causing translucent post-larvae disease (VTPD) in Penaeus vannamei

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 2023
A new emerging disease called "translucent post-larvae disease" (TPD) in Penaeus vannamei, caused by a novel type of highly lethal Vibro parahaemolyticus (VpTPD), has become an urgent threat to the shrimp farming industry in China. In order to develop an effective disinfectant for the prevention and control of the VpTPD, the clinical protective effects
