Fine Mapping of the “black” Peel Color in Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) Strongly Suggests That a Mutation in the Anthocyanidin Reductase (ANR) Gene Is Responsible for the Trait

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
Anthocyanins are important dietary and health-promoting substances present in high quantities in the peel and arils of the pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) fruit.

Upcycling Pomegranate Peel Into Functional Yoghurt: Chemical Profile, Antioxidant Capacity, and Anti–Staphylococcus aureus Activity

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Pomegranate peel extract enhanced the nutritional, physicochemical, and microbiological qualities of yoghurt. It is a rich source of polyphenolic compounds that eliminates Staphylococcus aureus in yoghurt at 0.1% and 0.3% concentrations without altering its pH value. ABSTRACT The use of natural additives, particularly pomegranate peel extract (PPE), to

Attenuation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Virulence by Pomegranate Peel Extract

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2022
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen often responsible for biofilm-associated infections. The high adhesion of bacterial cells onto biotic/abiotic surfaces is followed by production of an extracellular polysaccharidic matrix and formation of a sessile community (the biofilm) by the release of specific quorum-sensing molecules, named ...

Effect of encapsulated purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) peel extract on fresh goat cheese: quality and polyphenolic and color stability during refrigerated storage

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND The aim of this work was to characterize the polyphenolic profile of encapsulated purple sweet potato peel extract (PSPPE), to assess the effects of its addition (1.5 and 3 g L−1) on the color, texture, microbiological quality, microstructure, and sensory attributes of fresh goat cheese, and to monitor the polyphenolic profile and ...

Alterations in Metabolites Associated With Umbilical Cord Blood in Monozygotic Twins Discordant for Congenital Heart Disease

open access: yesPediatric Discovery, EarlyView.
This study found that the metabolomic signature of umbilical venous cord blood in congenital heart disease (CHD) differs from that of healthy monozygotic (MZ) co‐twins. Dysregulation of metabolic pathways like glucose, lipid, and amino acid metabolism, along with altered metabolites, helps understand CHD predisposition.

ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF POMEGRANATE PEEL POWDER

open access: yesJournal of Drug Delivery and Therapeutics, 2017
The aim of present study was to evaluate in-vitro anti-oxidant properties of Punica granatum fruit (Pomegranate fruit) peel. Antioxidants are molecules involved in defense mechanisms against the deleterious effects of free radicals in most organisms. Antioxidants are the agents responsible for scavenging free radicals.

The Neuroprotective Effect of a Waste Byproduct Obtained From Pomegranate (Punica granatum)

open access: yesPhytotherapy Research, EarlyView.
The Effect of a Waste Byproduct Obtained From Pomegranate on Neurodegeneration. ABSTRACT Pomegranate is an exceptional fruit that can have several beneficial effects on human health. The peel of pomegranate, a waste product, should be recovered as it still contains valuable constituents, including phenolic compounds, minerals and fibre. The recovery of

The multidimensional regulation roles and mechanisms of calcium in fruit quality

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
This review explores how calcium signaling molecule integrates plant hormones, environmental cues, and developmental signals to influence external fruit traits, internal nutritional properties, and physiological disorders. ABSTRACT Calcium (Ca2+), a dual‐functional mineral that serves both as an essential structural factor and a signaling molecule ...
