How glacial history and environmental variation affect population differentiation and gene flow dynamics in Alpine plant species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
How glacial history and environmental variation affect population differentiation and gene flow dynamics in Alpine plant species The focus of my doctoral thesis lies on the genetic diversity and local adaptation of plant species in the European Alps ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Population-Genetic History of China in the Context of the East Asian Population History

open access: yesOriental Courier, 2023
The territory of modern China was a zone of active population transformations from the time of its occupation by human species. There was the formation zone of the progenitors of all Mongoloid populations associated with the eastern trunk of non-Africans. The most ancient group is associated with the population of Tianyuan cave (田園洞).

New Zealand regions, 1986-2001: Population dynamics

open access: yes, 2005
New Zealand regions have markedly different population dynamics. Population change in a region is driven by three different factors: fertility, mortality and migration.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Whither are we bound? Rethinking the gendered frailty during COVID-19 pandemic

open access: yesPublic Health in Practice, 2020
The outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has demonstrated the urgency to reconsider social behavior and the health system quality to efficiently support and improve global health.

Components of regional population growth, 1986-2001

open access: yes, 2004
The vitality of a region is frequently assessed by looking at its population growth pattern. This is seen as being linked to its economic and social vibrancy.

Perfect Simulation From Nonneutral Population Genetic Models: Variable Population Size and Population Subdivision. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We show how the idea of monotone coupling from the past can produce simple algorithms for simulating samples at a nonneutral locus under a range of demographic models.
