IL-2 and IL-6 synergize to augment the pore-forming protein gene expression and cytotoxic potential of human peripheral blood T cells.

The Journal of Immunology, 1990
Abstract Our previous studies have demonstrated that high dose IL-2 (1000 U/ml) alone can induce human peripheral blood T cell pore-forming protein (PFP) mRNA expression and cytotoxic potential. We now report that the levels of IL-2 needed to induce these effects in T cells can be significantly reduced in the presence of IL-6.

Target cell apoptosis induced by cytotoxic T cells and natural killer cells involves synergy between the pore‐forming protein, perforin, and the serine protease, granzyme B

Australian and New Zealand Journal of Medicine, 1995
Abstract:Cytotoxic lymphocytes (CL) comprise two effector cell populations with the ability to eliminate unwanted or harmful cells. Cytotoxic T cells (CTLs) demonstrate both an exquisite specificity and memory in recognising target cell oligopeptides presented within the groove of major histocompatibility complex class I antigens.

Effects of heparin and other acid mucopolysaccharides on the activity of a cytolytic pore-forming protein (perforin) from cytotoxic T-lymphocytes.

Journal of biochemistry, 1988
A cytolytic protein (perforin) was rapidly purified from a cell line of mouse cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTL) by DEAE-cellulose, heparin-Sepharose, and phenyl-Sepharose chromatographies. The purified perforin was activated by heparin, the half maximal concentration being 3-10 ng/ml, depending on the calcium concentration.
