Trends of the major porin gene (ompF) evolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
OmpF is one of the major general porins of Enterobacteriaceae that belongs to the first line of bacterial defense and interactions with the biotic as well as abiotic environments.

Multiple facets of bacterial porins [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 2001
Porins form channels allowing the transport of molecules across lipid bilayer membranes. Their structure, location and large number on the bacterial surface lend them multiple functions. Porin loops are potential targets for adhesion to other cells and binding of bactericidal compounds to the surface of Gram-negative bacteria.

Stress granules inhibit fatty acid oxidation by modulating mitochondrial permeability

open access: yesCell Reports, 2021
Summary: The formation of stress granules (SGs) is an essential aspect of the cellular response to many kinds of stress, but its adaptive role is far from clear.

A mitochondrial import receptor for the ADP/ATP carrier [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
We have identified a mitochondrial outer membrane protein of 72 kd (MOM72) that exhibits the properties of an import receptor for the ADP/ATP carrier (AAC), the most abundant mitochondrial protein.

Asymmetric conductivity of engineered porins [PDF]

open access: yesProtein Engineering, Design and Selection, 2002
Positively charged peptide segments of 16 and 18 residues were inserted at a periplasmic turn of the porin from Rhodobacter blasticus in order to form an electric field-dependent plug. The X-ray diffraction analysis of a mutant confirmed that the structure of the porin had remained intact and that the insert was mobile.

The mitochondrial receptor complex [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
The receptor complex in the mitochondrial outer membrane, which consists of at least seven different proteins, is responsible for the recognition and translocation of cytosolically synthesized preproteins.

Evaluation of Porin Interaction with Adenine Nucleotide Translocase and Cyclophilin-D Proteins after Brain Ischemia and Reperfusion [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences, 2011
Objective (s) Porin is a mitochondrial outer membrane channel, which usually functions as the pathway for the movement of various substances in and out of the mitochondria and is considered to be a component of the permeability transition (PT) pore ...

Two Novel Amyloid Proteins, RopA and RopB, from the Root Nodule Bacterium Rhizobium leguminosarum

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2019
Amyloids represent protein fibrils with a highly ordered spatial structure, which not only cause dozens of incurable human and animal diseases but also play vital biological roles in Archaea, Bacteria, and Eukarya.

Characterization of Translocation Contact Sites Involved in the Import of Mitochondrial Proteins [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Import of proteins into the mitochondrial matrix requires translocation across two membranes. Translocational intermediates of mitochondrial proteins, which span the outer and inner membrane simultaneously and thus suggest that translocation occurs in ...

Bacterial porins stimulate bone resorption [PDF]

open access: yesInfection and Immunity, 1997
Porins are abundant outer membrane proteins of gram-negative bacteria involved in transport of low-molecular-mass molecules. During the past decade, porins from a number of bacteria have also been shown to have proinflammatory activities including inducing the synthesis of proinflammatory mediators (cytokines, platelet-activating factor, and nitric ...
