Characterization of oxazolidinone and phenicol resistance genes in non-clinical enterococcal isolates from Korea

open access: yesJournal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance, 2021
Objectives: To investigate the distribution and genetic characteristics of linezolid-resistant enterococci. Methods: Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium strains were isolated from pigs, equipment, grounds, and employees of 19 Korean swine ...

Rapid Identification of Species, Antimicrobial‐Resistance Genotypes and Phenotypes of Gram‐Positive Cocci Using Long Short‐Term Memory Raman Spectra Methods

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 5, Issue 4, April 2023., 2023
Herein, a novel method that used artificial intelligence to analyze biological Raman spectra to identify microbes and their antimicrobial resistance at both genotype and phenotype levels is developed. The novel method exhibits higher level of accuracy than those obtained using the machine learning algorithms.

Detection of optrA and poxtA genes in linezolid-resistant Enterococcus isolates from fur animals in China

open access: yesLetters in Applied Microbiology, 2022
Abstract The emergence of linezolid-resistant (LR) enterococci found in food of animal origin arouses attention, but little is known about LR enterococci in fur animals. A total of 342 Enterococcus faecalis and 265 E. faecium strains isolated from fur animals in China from 2015 to 2017 were investigated to determine if LR enterococci ...

Technical specifications for a baseline survey on the prevalence of methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in pigs

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 20, Issue 10, October 2022., 2022
Abstract The European Commission requested scientific and technical assistance in the preparation of a EU‐wide baseline survey protocol for a European Union (EU) coordinated monitoring programme on the prevalence of methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) in pigs.

Distinct gut microbiota and health outcomes in asymptomatic infection, viral nucleic acid test re‐positive, and convalescent COVID‐19 cases

open access: yesmLife, Volume 1, Issue 2, Page 183-197, June 2022., 2022
Abstract Gut microbiota composition is suggested to associate with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) severity, but the impact of gut microbiota on health outcomes is largely unclear. We recruited 81 individuals from Wuhan, China, including 13 asymptomatic infection cases (Group A), 24 COVID‐19 convalescents with adverse outcomes (Group C), 31 severe ...

Linezolid-resistant Enterococcus gallinarum isolate of swine origin carrying cfr, optrA and poxtA genes

open access: yesJournal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 2021
Abstract Objectives To characterize a linezolid-resistant Enterococcus gallinarum isolate of porcine origin co-carrying cfr, optrA and poxtA genes. Methods The genome was sequenced using the Illumina and Nanopore platforms.

Maximum levels of cross‐contamination for 24 antimicrobial active substances in non‐target feed. Part 7: Amphenicols: florfenicol and thiamphenicol

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 19, Issue 10, October 2021., 2021
Abstract The specific concentrations of florfenicol and thiamphenicol in non‐target feed for food‐producing animals, below which there would not be an effect on the emergence of, and/or selection for, resistance in bacteria relevant for human and animal health, as well as the specific antimicrobial concentrations in feed which have an effect in terms ...

Analysis of combined resistance to oxazolidinones and phenicols among bacteria from dogs fed with raw meat/vegetables and the respective food items [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The gene optrA is the first gene that confers resistance to the oxazolidinone tedizolid, a last resort antimicrobial agent in human medicine. In this study we investigated the presence of optrA and the multi-resistance genes poxtA and cfr in enterococci ...
