Studies on the role of IS1216E in the formation and dissemination of poxtA-carrying plasmids in an Enterococcus faecium clade A1 isolate

open access: yesJournal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 2020
Abstract Objectives To analyse the role of IS1216E in the dissemination of the phenicol-oxazolidinone-tetracycline resistance gene poxtA in an Enterococcus faecium clade A1 isolate. Methods MICs were determined by broth microdilution.

Frequent carriage of enterococci and other Lactobacillales with OptrA and PoxtA ribosomal protection resistance mechanisms among children from rural areas of Bolivia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Infectious Diseases
Objectives: Oxazolidinones are antibiotics of remarkable clinical importance, and resistance to these drugs is a matter of concern. This study investigated the presence of optrA, poxtA and cfr transferable oxazolidinone resistance determinants among ...

The resistome of the food chain: A One Health perspective

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 17, Issue 7, July 2024.
Available resistome studies have shown that a large diversity of known antimicrobial resistance (AMR) determinants circulate throughout the food chain, including some of critical importance. A One Health perspective is crucial for comprehensively understanding and effectively managing AMR in the food chain.

First Case of Staphylococci Carrying Linezolid Resistance Genes from Laryngological Infections in Poland

open access: yesPathogens, 2021
Linezolid is currently used to treat infections caused by multidrug-resistant Gram-positive cocci. Both linezolid-resistant S. aureus (LRSA) and coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) strains have been collected worldwide.

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of linezolid-resistant Enterococcus faecium from the USA and Pakistan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
OBJECTIVES: Linezolid is an important therapeutic option for the treatment of infections caused by VRE. Linezolid is a synthetic antimicrobial and resistance to this antimicrobial agent remains relatively rare.

Low Proportion of Linezolid and Daptomycin Resistance Among Bloodborne Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus faecium and Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus Infections in Europe [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VREF) and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are associated with significant health burden. We investigated linezolid and daptomycin resistance among VREF and MRSA in the EU/EEA between 2014 and ...

Daily occupational exposure in swine farm alters human skin microbiota and antibiotic resistome

open access: yesiMeta, Volume 3, Issue 1, February 2024.
We show that occupational exposure in a livestock environment dynamically reshaped the skin microbiome and resistome. This remodeling effect can take place within hours and the acquired pathogens and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) have the potential to expand to the general population using farm workers as an ARG vector.

Molecular characteristics of optrA-carrying Enterococcus faecalis from chicken meat in South Korea

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2020
The purpose of this study was to identify the genetic environment of optrA gene in linezolid (LZD)-resistant Enterococcus faecalis from chicken meat and to describe the probable mechanism of dissemination of the optrA gene through plasmid or chromosomal ...

Linezolid-Resistant Enterococcus spp. Isolates from Foods of Animal Origin—The Genetic Basis of Acquired Resistance

open access: yesFoods, 2022
Enterococci are important opportunistic pathogens with the capacity to acquire and spread antibiotic resistance. At present, linezolid-resistant enterococci (LRE) pose a great challenge.
