Tanapox Virus and Yaba Monkey Tumor Virus K3 Orthologs Inhibit Primate Protein Kinase R in a Species-Specific Fashion

open access: yesViruses
Yaba monkey tumor virus (YMTV) and Tanapox virus (TPV) are members of the Yatapoxvirus genus and can infect humans and other primates. Despite the threat posed by yatapoxviruses, the factors determining their host range are poorly understood.

A selectable and excisable marker system for the rapid creation of recombinant poxviruses. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Genetic manipulation of poxvirus genomes through attenuation, or insertion of therapeutic genes has led to a number of vector candidates for the treatment of a variety of human diseases.

Vaccinia virus immune evasion: mechanisms, virulence and immunogenicity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Virus infection of mammalian cells is sensed by pattern recognition receptors and leads to an innate immune response that restricts virus replication and induces adaptive immunity.

An mRNA Vaccine Based on Antigens From Conserved Regions of Monkeypox Virus A35R and M1R With a Dimer‐Like Conformation Confers Protection Against Both Monkeypox Virus and Vaccinia Virus Infections in Mice

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 2, February 2026.
We developed four candidate mRNA vaccine antigens based on conserved sequences of MPXV A35R and M1R proteins. Our findings demonstrate that the MV2 vaccine possesses favorable immunogenicity and prophylactic potential against MPXV and VACV infections, positioning it as a promising clinical candidate for MPXV prevention.

Reindeer Parapoxvirus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Parapoxviruses (PPVs) are zoonotic viruses which cause contagious pustular skin infections of sheep, goats and cattle worldwide. In addition, they have more recently been shown to infect other animals such as red deer, seals, camels and reindeer ...

Microparasites and their potential impact on the population dynamics of small cetaceans from South America: a brief review. Document SC/59/DW8, Scientific Committee, International Whaling Commission, Anchorage, Alaska, 4-14 May 2007 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We briefly review the pathology, epidemiology and molecular biology of cetacean viruses (including morbilli, papilloma and pox) and Brucella spp. encountered in South America.

The N-terminal shuttle domain of Erv1 determines the affinity for Mia40 and mediates electron transfer to the catalytic Erv1 core in yeast mitochondria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Erv1 and Mia40 constitute the two important components of the disulfide relay system that mediates oxidative protein folding in the mitochondrial intermembrane space. Mia40 is the import receptor that recognizes the substrates introducing disulfide bonds

Mathematical Modeling of the Role of Cytokines in Sindbis Virus Treatment of Glioblastoma

open access: yesCPT: Pharmacometrics &Systems Pharmacology, Volume 15, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Oncolytic viruses, specifically Sindbis virus (SINV), combined with cytokines show promising results in slowing glioma progression, but a quantitative understanding of their effects remains limited. In this study, we use an ordinary differential equation (ODE) model to examine the effect of adding cytokines to oncolytic SINV therapy.

Genome Variability and Gene Content in Chordopoxviruses: Dependence on Microsatellites

open access: yesViruses, 2015
To investigate gene loss in poxviruses belonging to the Chordopoxvirinae subfamily, we assessed the gene content of representative members of the subfamily, and determined whether individual genes present in each genome were intact, truncated, or ...

Neomycin resistance as a dominant selectable marker for selection and isolation of vaccinia virus recombinants [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
The antibiotic G418 was shown to be an effective inhibitor of vaccinia virus replication when an appropriate concentration of it was added to cell monolayers 48 h before infection. Genetic engineering techniques were used in concert with DNA transfection
