The PQQ Story

Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering, 1999
About twenty years ago, the cofactor pyrroloquinoline quinone, PQQ, was discovered. Here the author gives his personal view on the reasons why this cofactor was so lately discovered and how the steps in its identification were made. The discovery not only led to subsequent studies on the physiological significance of PQQ but also initiated ...

Cloning ofKlebsiella pneumoniae Pqqgenes and PQQ Biosynthesis inEscherichia coli [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Letters, 1990
We have cloned genes from Klebsiella pneumoniae which are required for pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) biosynthesis. The cloned 6.7 kb fragment can complement several chromosomal pqq mutants. Escherichia coli strains are unable to synthesize PQQ but E. coli strains containing the cloned 6.7 kb K.

Dietary Pyrroloquinoline Quinone (PQQ) Alters Indicators of Inflammation and Mitochondrial-Related Metabolism in Human Subjects [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Nutritional Biochemistry, 2013
Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) influences energy-related metabolism and neurologic functions in animals. The mechanism of action involves interactions with cell signaling pathways and mitochondrial function. However, little is known about the response to
