Analysis of pre-mRNA and pre-rRNA processing factor Snu13p structure and mutants
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2007Snu13p is a Saccharomyces cerevisiae protein essential for pre-messenger RNA splicing and pre-ribosomal RNA processing. Snu13p binds U4 snRNA of the spliceosome and box C/D snoRNAs of the pre-ribosomal RNA processing machinery to induce assembly of each ribonucleoprotein complex. Here, we present structural and biochemical analysis of Snu13p.

The U18 snRNA is not essential for pre-rRNA processing in Xenopus laevis.
RNA (New York, N.Y.), 1996The U18 small nuclear RNA (snRNA) is one of several newly discovered intron-encoded nucleolar RNAs whose function is unknown. We have studied the accumulation and function of the U18 snRNA in oocytes of the vertebrate, Xenopus laevis. The U18 snRNA contains 13 nt complementary to a highly conserved sequence in 28S ribosomal RNA (rRNA).

Processing of the yeast pre-rRNA at sites A(2) and A(3) is linked.
RNA (New York, N.Y.), 1996Cleavage of the yeast pre-rRNA at site A(2) in internal transcribed spacer 1 (ITS1) requires multiple snoRNP species, whereas cleavage at site A(3),located 72 nt 3' in ITS1, requires Rnase MRP. Analyses of mutations in the pre- rRNA have revealed an unexpected link between processing at A(2) and A(3).
