MiR-340-5p regulates PD-L1 and predicts pembrolizumab response in extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma

open access: yesScientific Reports
Extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL) is an aggressive, chemoresistant non-Hodgkin lymphoma subtype with poor patient outcomes linked to elevated PD-L1 expression. This study investigates miRNA-mediated regulation of PD-L1, focusing on miR-340-5p and miR-

Predictive value of platelet function assays in traumatic brain injury patients on antiplatelet therapy

open access: yesJournal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery
INTRODUCTION Traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients on antiplatelet therapy face higher mortality because of impaired platelet function, which may be treated by platelet transfusion. The value of testing platelet function in this cohort remains controversial. We aimed to evaluate the relationship between platelet function assays

A Functional Homologous Recombination Assay Predicts Primary Chemotherapy Response and Long-Term Survival in Ovarian Cancer Patients [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Cancer Research, 2018
Abstract Purpose: Homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) correlates with platinum sensitivity in patients with ovarian cancer, which clinically is the most useful predictor of sensitivity to PARPi. To date, there are no reliable diagnostic tools to anticipate response to platinum-based chemotherapy, thus we aimed to develop an ex vivo

Conserved binding mode but diverse interfaces of MreC‐PBP2 interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of abMreC reveals a conserved two β‐barrel architecture and provides structural insights into its role within the bacterial elongasome. The abMreC–abPBP2 complex model identifies the molecular basis of MreC‐mediated PBP2 recognition, contributing to the regulation of peptidoglycan synthesis.

The Prognostic Significance of TRs in Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Insights from TCGA and GEO Databases

open access: yesBiomarker Insights
Background: Reduced expression of thyroid hormone receptors (TRs) has been observed in various human malignancies, though its predictive value in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains uncertain.

Motion based ex vivo (MOTEX) culture of breast tumor slices sustains microenvironment composition

open access: yesNeoplasia: An International Journal for Oncology Research
Personalized medicine for breast cancer (BrC) requires predictive biomarkers to select the optimal therapeutic option for each individual patient. Personalization of chemotherapy or immunotherapy responses is particularly challenging, as molecular ...

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.
