Improving carbon cycle projections for better carbon management [PDF]
Forests absorb large amounts of carbon from the atmosphere through photosynthesis and store a significant fraction of the carbon in biomass and soils. A March 2016 workshop focused on how best to use modeling approaches, field measurements, and satellite

Microscopic Observation Drug Susceptibility Assay for Rapid Diagnosis of Lymph Node Tuberculosis and Detection of Drug Resistance. [PDF]
In this study, 132 patients with lymphadenopathy were investigated. Fifty-two (39.4%) were diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB). The microscopic observation drug susceptibility (MODS) assay provided rapid (13 days), accurate diagnosis (sensitivity, 65.4 ...

Behavior of Vibrio spp. in Table Olives
The presence of Vibrio species in table olive fermentations has been confirmed by molecular biology techniques in recent studies. However, there has been no report of any foodborne outbreak caused by Vibrio due to the consumption of table olives, and ...

Obtaining Microbiological and Pharmacokinetic Highly Predictive Equations
In this paper, a Multilinear Regression (MLR) analysis has been carried out in order to accurately predict physicochemical properties and biological activities of a group of antibacterial quinolones by means of a set of structural descriptors called topological indices.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Predictive Microbiology and HACCP
While both predictive microbiology and hazard analysis critical control point (HACCP) programs are still in the developmental stages as food-safety tools, predictive models are available that are potentially useful in the development and maintenance of HACCP systems. When conducting a HACCP study, models can be used to assess the risk (probability) and
