Sex differences in prepulse inhibition of the acoustic startle response

open access: yes, 2003
The startle response is inhibited when the startle-eliciting stimulus is preceded 30-500 ms by a prepulse. This effect, known as prepulse inhibition (PPI), is believed to represent a sensorimotor gating mechanism, which protects the brain from ...

Prepulse Inhibition of the Acoustic Startle Reflex in fbΔBMPRII Mice.

open access: yes, 2015
The fbΔBMPRII mutants (red) and control littermates (white) showed similar levels of prepulse inhibition of the acoustic startle across three different intensities of the prepulse stimulus.

Persistent in vitro nociceptor hyperexcitability and axonal retraction produced by repeated paclitaxel doses

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Repeated paclitaxel exposure causes long‐lasting nociceptor hyperexcitability and axonal retraction in adult sensory neurons. Using a long‐term primary nociceptor culture, we show that hyperexcitability is mediated by sequential upregulation of NaV1.8, TRPV1, TRPA1, and TRPM8 channels.

The ultrarapid delayed rectifier potassium current has important functional role in the repolarization reserve of canine and human ventricular muscle

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend The ultrarapid delayed rectifier potassium current (IKur) has long been considered an atrial‐specific current with no functional role in the ventricles, despite evidence of its expression in ventricular myocytes. In the present study we challenged this prevailing concept and investigated the potential role of IKur in ventricular ...

Psychophysiological markers of vulnerability to psychopathology in men with an extra X chromosome (XXY). [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
Studying genetically defined syndromes associated with increased risk for psychopathology may help in understanding neurodevelopmental mechanisms related to risk for psychopathology. Klinefelter syndrome (47,XXY) is one of the most common sex chromosomal

Glucocorticoid Receptor Translational Isoforms Generate Unique Glucocorticoid Responses in the Mouse Brain

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 12, 30 June 2026.
GR‐A knockin mice were generated that express the classic full‐length glucocorticoid receptor (GR‐A) but lack the highly conserved translational isoforms GR‐B, GR‐C1, GR‐C2, GR‐C3, GR‐D1, GR‐D2, and GR‐D3 that have progressively shorter N‐terminal transactivation domains (NTDs).

Serotonin 5‐HT7 receptor signaling in neuropsychiatric disorders

open access: yesBulletin of the Korean Chemical Society, Volume 47, Issue 6, Page 698-710, June 2026.
5‐HT7R recruits Gs, G12, and β‐arrestin signaling to regulate neuronal plasticity, circuit function, and kinase‐linked intracellular responses. This review summarizes how these pathway‐selective modules contribute to autism spectrum disorder, depression, and schizophrenia, highlighting 5‐HT7R as a pathway‐informed therapeutic target. Abstract Serotonin

Restoration of Excitation‐Inhibition Balance and Improvement of Schizophrenia‐like Behavioral Deficits via Electroacupuncture

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 6, June 2026.
Ablation of nNos from Erbb4‐positive neurons induces impaired GABAergic transmission and disruption of excitatory and inhibitory balance, which further cause hyperactivity of pyramidal neurons, resulting in schizophrenia‐relevant behavioral deficits. EA treatment rescues decreased GABAergic transmission and restores excitatory and inhibitory balance by

Primary and secondary neural networks of auditory prepulse inhibition: a functional magnetic resonance imaging study of sensorimotor gating of the human acoustic startle response

open access: yes, 2007
Feedforward inhibition deficits have been consistently demonstrated in a range of neuropsychiatric conditions using prepulse inhibition (PPI) of the acoustic startle eye-blink reflex when assessing sensorimotor gating.
