Convergent generation of atypical prions in knockin mouse models of genetic prion disease
Most cases of human prion disease arise due to spontaneous misfolding of WT or mutant prion protein, yet recapitulating this event in animal models has proven challenging. It remains unclear whether spontaneous prion generation can occur within the mouse

Long‐term stability of horizontal bone augmentation at implant sites
Abstract Horizontal bone augmentation is a fundamental surgical procedure in regenerative implant dentistry. In recent decades, this procedure has evolved, enabling clinicians to achieve predictable and stable horizontal bone augmentation that supports dental implant restorations.

ABSTRACT In this study, the dimensions of enjoying science lessons and pursuing science careers were examined under gender considerations. Ex post facto research was conducted on high school students (N = 599) from the Canary Islands who completed a Spanish version of the Test of Science Related Attitudes (TORSA).

In this review, we discuss how biomolecular condensates can inhibit amyloid aggregation in their interior, while still facilitating fibril formation at the interface between the dense and dilute phases, where molecular and mesoscale properties are likely optimal to promote protein aggregation.

Potential health benefits of cold‐water immersion: the central role of PGC‐1α
Abstract figure legend Cold‐water immersion (CWI) elicits autonomic, somato‐motoric (shivering thermogenesis), endocrine and metabolic, sensory transduction, and local biophysical effects that may converge on the transcriptional co‐activator PGC‐1α (centre).

Cell adhesion molecule CD44 is dispensable for reactive astrocyte activation during prion disease
Prion diseases are fatal, infectious, neurodegenerative disorders resulting from accumulation of misfolded cellular prion protein in the brain. Early pathological changes during CNS prion disease also include reactive astrocyte activation with increased ...

Prion propagation in vitro: are we there yet?
Prion diseases are caused by proteinaceous pathogens termed prions. Although the details of the mechanism of prion propagation are not fully understood, conformational conversion of cellular prion protein (PrPC) to misfolded, disease-associated scrapie ...

CX3CR1 Modulates Migration of Resident Microglia Towards Cortical Laser‐Induced Lesions
CX3CR1 deficiency promotes microglial migration toward CNS injury. Proteomic profiling reveals altered RHO‐mediated cytoskeletal signaling, while in vivo two‐photon imaging demonstrates increased process extension, velocity, and accumulation of Cx3cr1‐deficient microglia at lesion sites. ABSTRACT Microglia are innate immune cells of the central nervous

The Exceptions to the Central Dogma of Biology—Bending the Rules and Extending the Scope
ABSTRACT The central dogma is an organizing framework for how information flows in biological systems. First presented in 1957 by Francis Crick in his talk “On Protein Synthesis” as a fundamental hypothesis of how information is transferred from DNA to proteins but not out of proteins, it is now introduced in cell biology textbooks as three sequential ...
