Plasmonics‐Enhanced Characterization of Cervid PrP (87–114) Fragment Aggregates in Solution

open access: yesJournal of Biophotonics, Volume 19, Issue 3, March 2026.
Multimodal nanophotonics platform combining plasmon‐enhanced imaging, label‐free SERS, and optical staining reveals new insights into the aggregation of the cervid PrP (87–114) fragment, an amyloidogenic sequence linked to chronic wasting disease susceptibility.ABSTRACTWe performed a multimodal characterisation of self‐assembled fibrillar aggregates ...

Osteology of the Feeding Apparatus of Chilean Flamingo Phoenicopterus chilensis (Aves: Phoenicopteridae)

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 287, Issue 3, March 2026.
1. The skull features a broad, dorsoventrally flattened frontal region articulating with an elongated upper jaw that is complemented by the mandible's downward bend along its proximal half. 2. The low mechanical advantage in the mandible is attributed to the reduced and shallow insertion areas of the adductor muscles, which are positioned close to the ...

MicroRNAs in Methamphetamine: Addiction, Neurotoxicity, and Therapeutic Potential

open access: yesMedComm – Future Medicine, Volume 5, Issue 1, March 2026.
The use of METH leads to the release of dopamine from the affected brain regions, including the nucleus accumbens (NAc), ventral tegmental area (VTA), prefrontal cortex (PFC), hippocampus (Hip), and striatum. This triggers signals that alter miRNA expression, which in turn leads to differential expression of target genes.

The endoplasmic reticulum in mitochondrial protein targeting: A neuronal perspective on organelle crosstalk

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Neurons depend on tightly regulated spatial proteostasis to maintain function across their extended morphology. The endoplasmic reticulum (ER), traditionally known for its function in protein synthesis, folding, and trafficking, has long been recognized as a central platform for directing proteins to organelles of the secretory and endocytic ...

Genome‐Wide Association Study of Leukocyte Traits Reveals Candidate Genes Associated With Immunity in Holstein Cattle From Southern China

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 2, March 2026.
A genome‐wide association study (GWAS) was conducted to analyse variations in white blood cell (WBC) counts and composition traits among 200 Holstein cows in Southern China. The results identified two candidate genes, BEND5 and FOXJ3, associated with WBC count, lymphocyte percentage and basophil percentage.
