Prognostic impact of iron deficiency in new‐onset chronic heart failure: Danish Heart Failure Registry insights

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1346-1357, April 2025.
Abstract Aims Iron deficiency (ID) is prevalent in chronic heart failure (HF) but lacks a consensus definition. This study evaluates the prevalence and the prognostic impact of ID using different criteria on all‐cause and cardiovascular mortality, as well as first hospitalization for HF in patients with new‐onset chronic HF.

Cardiovascular effect of preeclampsia upon offspring development: Are (Pro) renin-renin receptor ((P)RR) and gender related? [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences
Objective(s): Preeclampsia (PE) is a complication of pregnancy that might increase progeny risk of cardiovascular and metabolic problems, mainly in males. Renin angiotensin aldosterone system is known to be involved.

A Delphi consensus project to capture experts' opinion on hyperkalaemia management across the cardiorenal spectrum

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1132-1140, April 2025.
Abstract The main purpose of this project was to capture experts' opinion on hyperkalaemia management and form best practice recommendations for cardiorenal patients in Greece. A steering committee of nephrologists and cardiologists developed 37 statements. An online questionnaire completed by 32 experts in cardiorenal management in Greece.

Cancer Stem Cells in Moderately Differentiated Lip Squamous Cell Carcinoma Express Components of the Renin–Angiotensin System

open access: yesFrontiers in Surgery, 2017
AimWe investigated the expression of the renin–angiotensin system (RAS) by cancer stem cell (CSC) subpopulations we have identified in moderately differentiated lip squamous cell carcinoma (MDLSCC).MethodTen MDLSCC samples underwent 3,3-diaminobenzidine (

The Role of the (Pro)renin Receptor in Hypertensive Disease

open access: yes, 2015
Tissue angiotensin generation depends on the uptake of circulating (kidney-derived) renin and/or its precursor prorenin (together denoted as (pro) renin).

Transcriptomic signatures reveal systemic adaptations and immune modulation in response to training and competitive racing in horses

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The molecular mechanisms underlying adaptation to physical exertion and racing stress in horses remain incompletely understood. Peripheral blood transcriptomics offers a minimally invasive method to monitor systemic responses to exercise and identify biomarkers of adaptation or overload. Objectives To evaluate transcriptomic changes

Functional Bread From Bambara Groundnut and Orange Peel Attenuates Hyperglycemia and Oxidative Stress in a High‐Fat Diet/Streptozotocin‐Induced Type 2 Diabetes Rat Model

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
This study evaluated Bambara groundnut–wheat composite bread fortified with orange peel in diabetic rats. Diets significantly lowered blood glucose, inhibited α‐glucosidase and α‐amylase, and boosted antioxidant enzymes compared to controls. Results emphasize BG‐based functional foods' potential to help manage type 2 diabetes through regulation of ...

Donkwa Enriched With Goron‐Tula (Azanza garckeana) Modulates Sexual Behavior and Activity of Enzymes Linked With Erectile Dysfunction in High‐Fat Diets/ Streptozotocin‐Induced (STZ/HFD) Diabetic Rats

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
(A) Mount number, (B) mount latency, (C) intromission number, and (D) intromission latency are the parameters of sexual behavior. Met = metformin. D100 = 100 Donkwa. D90G10 = 90% Donkwa + 10% Goron‐Tula. D85G15 = 85% Donkwa + 15% Goron‐Tula. D80G20 = 80% Donkwa + 20% Goron‐Tula. The mean ± standard error of the mean (SEM) expressed the results. *Values

The role of the (pro)renin receptor in the development of neurogenic hypertension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Despite the number of therapeutic interventions currently available for treating hypertension, approximately one-third of adult patients in the United States currently being treated remain hypertensive (43).

Renin receptor blockade: a better strategy for renal protection than Renin-Angiotensin system inhibition?

open access: yes, 2008
Prorenin and renin bind to a 350-amino acid protein called the (pro)renin receptor, which is present on the surface and functions intracellularly.
